Hey guys, any resources for reviewers who want to review audio submissions but don't know jack about music? I feel like I'd be doing a huge disservice to the artists at this point if I tried. Sorry if this post is off topic, I would've just PM'd but I thought your responses might be helpful to others, or maybe ultimately result in something like "fro's guides for audio reviewing". Well, I don't know jack about audio either, but my recent reviews are, although certainly not the best in this club, okay IMO.
For audio I usually divide the music in different parts, and tell the author what was good and bad about each of the parts. Did it sound nice, were there any special effects, or was the calmness of the song what made it really good. Or bad of course.
You don't have to write about specific instruments/samples if you don't want to, but you can try to pick one or two things out of the song you thought were good, and one or two that can use improvement. I don't know whay most terms mean either. I wouldn't even know how FL studio looks like.

Personally, when I review audio, I go for the good, the bad, and the possible.
Like, if there is something you like - say so. If there's something you don't like - also say so. Going into as much detail as you can about what you mean is always good. You don't necessarily need to know much about music - you just need to know how to isolate elements that you can talk about. Like, if you don't like the drumbeat of the song, say what part of the drumbeat you don't like, where it is, why you don't like it, etc. If you can give even an idea on how to improve it (if you were making it), that's good. Though, if you don't know what you'd do, that's alright too - nobody can or should ask you to do more than what you can do.
Condensed:
-Be as specific as possible about what you like/don't like (time it appears, what it is, etc.).
-Be as detailed as possible.
-Give some ideas on how to improve it if you can.
-Have a good amount of "stuff" to the review. One sentence isn't enough. Two paragraphs probably would be.
Even though I'm not in the club currently, I remember how to do it. :P
Now, the main reason I was coming here - got the song that could use some reviews. (wojessee, maybe you could practice on it? ;3)

Twas a funky mash-up, your transitions between mashed tracks is very hit and miss. On occasion it's smooth but alot of the time it feels unnatural. It's pretty good but repetitive rhythms dull the experience. It's good for parties however.

Now that I am back I have caught up on my outstanding review responces for this club - I said I would before I requested anything again. Having done that, here is my new pic...
It is different to what I have requested before, more styalised then just a regular sceane. Someone has already suggested that I try for a series - If I can replicate the style (the first design was done quite a while ago but I just couldn't think how to finish it, untill now) I might just do that.

This marks the second week in a row I have actually managed to get 100%, something I have not done in awhile.
Very nice. I'll have to aim for 100% myself one of these days.
Coop, Haggard, and Winrar1337 all managed to get a few done which helps a lot. Sectus and shrimpchris both got one review done. Hopefully, NL-Courage and Knuckstrike can both get some done or they might end up falling off the list.

The really annoying thing is that I'd given a heartfelt review for it and then he goes and deletes it, before I cna get given credit and my 50%. Bastard. Can we blacklist some users?
