Here's a few of my poems. They're symbolic, so interpret them how you like. Feedback is appreciated!
Mother to Child
Don't you ever shut your eyes
Said mother to child
(Don't turn off the lights,
There are monsters in the dark)
Not even for a second
Or the moment you do
(And I'm all grown up now, mama
And it's getting harder and harder to keep my promises)
The world will go by
In the blink of an eye
(And it's been years and years now
And the colors aren't so clear anymore)
Leaving you long behind
Don't ever shut your eyes
(And it's getting darker, they're begging now,
Please, oh please don't turn off the lights!)
Don't you even blink!
The Cleansing
We travel as night hunts the day
Over dusk and dust by yonder way
As the rivers widen to the bay
And the willow's addled boughs do sway
How easily time slips the mind, you forget
How bitter the cold air breathing makes
How I wonder how this heart, stitched and sewn
Does not unseam itself
Like shorebirds we pick at the sand
Out, imperfect grain, out!
Heavenwards, we beg the storm
The fire's cinders not quite warm
In hopes absolving rain does form
The night at bay, at bay the swarm
How softly torpor comes to the mind
How akin is flesh to oak, and oak to stone
How the cracks form deeper each winter
As the frost seeps in
Like a thousand dark horses
Night hunts the day, night hunts the day
