Contest Rules:

Dimensions - 4.75 x 4.75 inches
Required Text - "Newgrounds Hip Hop Competition 2011".
Deadline: April 4th, 2011.
Prize: NG store credit for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. 1st place gets to help design the next album we print!
Content - Anything you like! One idea would be to take common Newgrounds characters and make them gangster, like BizarroJoe did. If you have any other great ideas though give it a shot!

Want to design the art of a music album? Right now I am running a hip hop competition with a ton of Newgrounds musicians. In the end of it all I will be producing an album with the winning entries and selling that album through the Newgrounds store. All proceeds will be going towards prizes for future NG Hip Hop competitions.

To create this album we need art, hence the NGHH art competition! To enter you need to design an album cover for the next competition. The winner will be expected to help out with the rest of the album (2 CDs and an inner panel). BizarroJoe was last year's winner and he did an excellent job! We have printed the CD and it is now available in the Newgrounds store. Buy it if you want to support NGHH!

Disclaimer
You are allowed multiple submissions but only one may win. Artists retain ownership of their art but grant Big Red and Newgrounds the right to use it in the future for promotional purposes and to include it in the 2011 album.

300 DPI preferrably. The CD front itself, when printed, has to be those dimensions in inches. This is why I specified inches instead of pixels. If you want a different DPI that's not a big problem, as long as you can be certain it will work when printed on the cover insert.

without a ppi thats really no use... how many pixels per inch do you need? Its probably 300, but still; you should have said that, not I.

Why not have three winners; nr 1. will have the atual cover; nr 2. will have the second cover and nr. 3 will have the inner panel...?

well that might look a bit goofy since they would need track listings for the back and it might clash with 2nd or 3rd place, plus there wouldn't be color schemes or anything etc, it looks better if one person puts in their own one style into i think.

well, you could still have one person design the outside of the one cd and the other person do the outside of the other cd.... I dont see how having an insided by another artist would clash with that....

Its all up to you, it was just a suggestion so that you could get more prizes instead of only the first prize..

also: you do not actually mention prizes.... dont know if you have any but if you do you might want to mention them; if you dont.... is it really a competition?

Exact numbers will be announced, I'm just waiting to hear back from Tom. Also, it's much harder to organize collabs when you involve more people. The way I've decided to do it 2nd and 3rd will get prizes, but 1st gets creative control of the album. It's not just images put together, it's a project with an artistic vision, and we'll need more than just an album cover (Track listing, credits, and discs). If you check out the album in the NG store you can see BizarroJoe included the 2nd and 3rd place images on it on the inside cover.

You say first place gets to help design the next album you print, but does the person that wins get paid to do that, in addition to whatever they win for first place?

I'm terrified of the Imperial measuring system. Can I pretend that it's metric, even if it isn't? I promise not to change the size.

Well, hopefully my submission will actually get finished this year or something. I certainly remember last year's competition, and if anything it was completely beast. BizzaroJoe did great with the cover. You did great Joe. It looks so suitable and for some reason suits the music to boot.

Absolutely, haha. The submissions have to fit onto a standard CD insert, that's really all I require from it. metric works for me :P

In addition, as this comp grows we might be able to offer more. The money raised from albums will all go to prizes, but right now we're still in the negative cash zone.

I shipped two finished CD's to BizarroJoe in Spain. If this isn't something you find exciting you don't have to enter. In the future things will be bigger and rewards better, but this is only the second time around. Gotta build a movement :)

I feel like you should touch it up some more. those letters seem kind of dull.
You should throw in a background, or something to make it "pop" a little more.

If I had to give it a 1 - 10, in its current status, I would rate it an 8. I feel like you could easily turn this in to a 10. You should at least give it a shot and see what you can creatively impose to the already "8".

Like I said before man, it looks great so far, and you did a damn good job too.
Just see what you could do if you messed around with it some more, maybe add some more effects to the letters, just give it go, ok?
