Bo Nrr's Art, What Do I Do Wrong

Alright, I'm gonna post my stuff here because it would be nice to have some feedback on it. If there's something I'm doing wrong, I'd like to hear it. If there's something you like, I mean, positive reinforcement can be nice, too. I try to never do something too similar to what I previously did, so the stuff I do should be pretty varied. So lets jump right in.

Okay, we got this here. Besides hands, which god dammit I try, I'll get better eventually, it's on my to do list, what have we got to think on this? The background could use a bit more detail also, that's a thing.

This is the other thing I'll post for now. Again hands are a bit off, background is the same so there's that, and she kinda looks like a muppet, which I think adds to the cuteness. Her right eye is maybe a little off, but I think it's just because of the hair, and I had a bit of trouble with her lower body. I dunno, tell me what you think. I have a lot more I could use feedback on.

Alright, now that I'm back from work I'll dump the rest of this stuff for critique. This I really just like, I think it looks nice, santa is maybe a bit flat but other than that if there's anything that kinda sucks about this one, I kinda can't find too much wrong myself.

Second part of the comic. I don't have much to say on this. Santa is supposed to look a little weird.

A city made of flesh. Could use a bit more detail, a bit less "what the hell is that supposed to be." The perspective is not great.

i had a lot of trouble with making it look like she was leaning forward, I could probably pull it off better now after having done this, but for sure that perspective is not good.

Alright I guess that's all I really got right now that's just straight up "what can I be taught from this" art, most of my other stuff I pretty much have a solid idea of where I've fucked up or what I'd want to change. I can't stand the rating system as all it does is make me feel like I suck without telling me why so any opinions anyone can provide is much appreciated. If people want to see more of my stuff I can post it here.

Screw it, here's this, too. It's flat and uninteresting, but I was just updating a character design.

I'll toss this here. It could use more clean up but I kinda like the character design.

Bit fetishistic. Haven't seen a rack of lamb like that in a while.

Frustrated? Stuck in a rut? Annoyed and aimless? Happens to the best of us, buddy!

I've got some advice, for what it's worth. I think you ought to reevaluate what you're doing and what it is you're trying to achieve. You need goals, aspirations. Delineated, defined and achievable.

You've got the ambition, but right now you're running around in circles. Gotta sit down, and do the hard yards. Draw, sketch, and paint from life. Perhaps then stylized to your ideals. Back up your ambition with practical knowledge, applied in ways that you personally want. Even if that means a giant set of tits.

Don't view it as practice, or exercises. View it as training.

For resources, I'd recommend taking advantage of modern narcissism and flick through fashion, architectural, military whatever blogs. There's plenty to be found. For the nude figure, there's posemaniacs and artlovely. If they're still alive, either way 30 minutes of google searching will get you everything you need.

To get you started, here's a link to an imageboard's collection of instructional PDFs.

The fastest way to learn any craft is to copy. On that thought, life is the greatest teacher of all.

Sure, feel free to turn this into an art thread or sketchbook thread. Just remember that most artists aren't prone to being as mouthy as I am, more likely to quietly flick through and nod their head.

Thanks for taking the time to write all that out. I think I will start doing more practical drawing, I did a fair bit but I've been really lax lately since going all "social media."

I never get frustrated with art because it's all I do. I set plenty of small goals like "figure out how this artist does their lighting" or "make my line work more natural" and it keeps me from ever getting discouraged. The only time I ever get frustrated is once the art is done and posted and it's just an empty void of any kind of feedback. Like, within 3 days I basically always hate something about what I just did, but it would be nice to be able to get that hate from someone besides myself to have some sort of legitimate opinion. That's why the title of this post is put so plainly, I just want anything. I get that I shouldn't expect much social interaction though since I'm not really social myself. I don't get too beat up about it, I just get back to drawing.

Thanks again for posting, I really appreciate your input. You're definitely right about other artists not really saying a whole lot, so that's a fair point I'll keep in mind, it's difficult for sure though.

Also I'm actually not really a huge fan of large breasts, but for various reasons I just haven't posted my less chesty characters, haha.

Fair enough, man, don't let it keep you down.

As for social interaction, yeah welcome to the art sphere. Everyone is irreversibly introverted. Most peeps just keep to your own thread. You want feedback then eventually, like an abused child trying to comfort themselves, you'll just have to learn to give feedback to yourself.

I get what you mean on some sense, at least, since trying to improve in isolation is a chore. Anyway, keep in posting and I'll at least be sure to drop in. Even if it's flicking through the thread while nodding since commenting on someone's thread continuously makes you look needy.

Bam! day one for good ol' Nrrvember, the art holiday we all love.

I've got a question if anyone knows, I'd like to post NSFW stuff in my art thread, but it's not labeled as such. Should I make a new thread or is there a way to change the title to reflect that or is just saying NSFW here going forward sufficient? I don't have anything explicitly ready to post that's NSFW, but figured I'd see what to do before I have to cross that bridge.

Nrrvember day 2. I'm already starting to fall behind, which is unfortunate, but I've got time off so I think I can make this work, but god damn I have not been sick in years, and this is a very inopportune time for it.

Now I'm no expert, but you definetely have a lot of thoughts behind your pieces. What I like is that you definetely have patience and give every piece your best, thats a good attitude to have. About the lack of feedback, I feel you. Even after I've stopped hiding with my drawings and started openly sketching during lectures and stuff, the truth is that people usually don't seem to care that much and most of the time, you are limited to a small group of people that are willing to give you any kind of opinion. And it sucks. And nothing can be done about it.

But - as long as you're able to motivate yourself on your own, you' ll continue working. And inevitably, you'll get better in time. You just need to be persistent.

That's all the advice I can give, given my limited competence :P Do your thing and the rest will just come naturally, as long as you dont stop

Hey, thanks, I definitely appreciate the input. I'll definitely look at your work and really think about how you can improve if you want, not having outside input is a drag. It's difficult for me to critique you because we approach things so differently, plus I'm totally still learning myself, but I'm sure there's some stuff I can come up with.

I could definetely use some feedback, so - can't say no to that! And yes, we are very different, but I think that's a plus because we can review each other without any sort of style bias... if that makes sense.

A character sketch for what I wanted to do for day 3 of Nrrvember. I'm so god damn sick right now though that over 2 days this is what I managed to accomplish. I want to post this, though, and ask out of morbid curiosity if people would rather I do a pinup, or something a bit more reserved. Either way hopefully I get less sick soon and can start going crazy balls at art again, because laying in bed not drawing sucks sucks sucks.

I did this as a joke, but I genuinely like how it turned out, so screw it. This is day 3 of Nrrvember, even though today is November 5th, but there's really nothing I can do about that save work my ass off, which is what I'm gonna do anyway.

I'll try and do the character I was gonna do tomorrow, and hopefully get some roughs set up so I'm less horribly far behind as I go along. Anything anyone wants to see, seriously let me know, I'm more motivated when I'm doing stuff for other.

I gotta go back to basics here so I'm pretty much going to be going utilitarian as fuck for a long bit here. 1-10 are 30 second gestures 11-14 are a minute, 15 and 15 are roughly 6 minutes each, and 17 is 11 and a half minutes. I need to work on my speed because being headless is no good for art. Apologies for the fact that this shit is gonna be fucking boring, but hopefully people can spot some flaws and I can get all learned up-like.

Guess I never posted this anywhere on here so let's do that now. No line work was put into this, I used more of a painting method. It's a monster concept design I did for a friend for his horror short. Painting is very hit or miss, but I like this.

this as well is something I did for the horror short. Again painted in manga studio, no line work. It's a bit more rough than the other one, in the context of the story this is in a creepy old children's book.

I'm just gonna throw this up here because it makes me happy. I don't really need any sort of critique or anything, just feel like sharing. Her name is Vinegar and she is the first character I really created as a character, not just a random doodle. Also I am unhealthily obsessed with her and you should probably look down on me for it, your call. WIP/sketch obviously.

Alrighty, got this one finished, now feel free to be critical if you want. I really like how I colored it, having both comic shadows and shading gives it a pretty neat look. I could have done a bit more with the highlights, but overall I think it's pretty neat.
