Apparently the only current video recording of the suicide resides at the Sarasota Sheriff's Department in the form of a 2" quad video and in the hand's of Christine Chubbuck's family.
Much E-detective work has been done, but all for naught. Getting this video is nigh impossible.

sorry to bump the ancient thread, but it might ease some people's curiosity to know i saw the chris chubbuck video once, someplace online a long time ago (it was online for a while there), and there really wasn't much to see. the video i saw wasn't very clear, so you wouldn't even know it was a gun in her hand if...well...you didn't already know it was a gun in her hand...and she just puts it to her head and there's a popping sound and she falls out of her chair really fast and out of sight onto the floor behind the anchor desk. leading up to it she's totally calm and speaking just as you would expect a newscaster to speak. it's a lot like watching an ordinary newscast except the newscaster falls out of her chair at the end. if you're a death hag looking for gruesome details, there were none to be seen in that video; no visible blood or anything, and she fell out of her chair too fast for you to even see a look on her face. so unless you're looking for the video for sociological reasons or something, you're not missing much.

I've done some research into this and I've found that copies of this footage may exist. The tape was called quad tape (2inch tape) and it was huge, it wasn't some small flimsy type of footage, this was huge. And the police wouldn't have been able to play it, so therefore the station had to make a copy of that footage on a different format playable on equipment the police could view. It's also been said the station manager let people view the footage and may've given copies to other people and was going to sell it to a station in New York but evidently the Chubbuck family got an injuction to stop it from happening. I've heard that the FCC got a copy, through someone who knows someone who has worked at the FCC for twenty years, but they weren't even allowed to view it. I've also heard the FBI has it on "training" tapes in Quantico and I've also heard it was leaked but quickly pulled from the internet a long time ago.
Whether or not it will be leaked again (if it was in the first place) who knows. I'm very curious to see it.
