12/22/07 My Newgrounds Day

I'm sure plenty of people here have seen and highly enjoyed watching 'My New Grounds' by Allen Awesome, if you haven't go check it out now.

This short is an interesting piece on a newgrounds user and it shows how he spends his time on newgrounds but he is only one newgrounder and there are millions more out there. So I come to you to ask you to show newgrounds 'Your Newgrounds'.

I've decided to make a bit of an event out of it, so anyone that is interested in making their own "My Newgrounds', snap to it. We will submit them to the portal on Saturday the 22nd of December, that gives you a week and a bit to get it done, if you arent done in time submit it another day, easy!

In case you are thinking, "well you're just ripping of that guys idea", that is not the case I sent a Private message to Allen Awesome and he said he'd be delighted to see other people's take on Newgrounds.

im going to make mine fully animated because thats all i know how to do. and i'll release it on my birthday because of that.

That's an incredible idea, and on the plus side, I think my sister bought a video camera the other week.

Saw youre post on the reg lounge on this.. I think its a really good idea but I dont really have enough time to do this and make it good... anyway I look forward to seeing other people take on the idea... Hopefully some people will have different ideas and do it a bit differently to the original, eg Luis animating the whole thing... anyway sounds good!

It would be cool if you could try and submit it on the day, doesn't look like many others will be doing it but if you want submit it on your birthday.

FOR THE LOVE OF ALLAH DONT USE THAT FAGGY ROBOT TEXT TO SPEECH VOICE THAT THEY USE ON CLOCK KREWZ TOONZ.. this is supposed to be an honest look at yourself and your own personality to the newgrounds family.. what point is it if youre going to have a computer tell your story for you.

i started making one almost the minutea after i saw My NGs when it was first released to the portal. but it just didn't seem to flow right.

i think there will be some good parodies on the portal. but i also think there will be a dozen shitty attempts

That animation/video was so inspirational.

Anyway. I plan to make one but I'm not sure what would be best to use for Video/Audio. I'm a broke 15 year old but then again christmas is like 2 weeks away. Any suggestions to ask for for christmas would be beautiful. PM me!
I can't get it in by the 22nd, but I will get it in, or at least make it. Oh, and if you do PM me with suggestions please make them reasonable ones, not like 100 dollar machines. My parents do a strict %$275 per kid thing this year, so... yeah. I can't wait to do this.

well, don't you have like a digital camera or camcorder? or a webcam? and aslo, JUst get a cheap mic for like £10 and your ready to go

I thought the video was awsome, I don't think I can join in this project because I have NO experience in flash. But I would love to see everybody else try!

Ok, so here's how I made My New Grounds

Leave the frame rate in Flash set to default (12fps) otherwise the video will speed up.

Step 1: Record video, without sound (quality issues) using web cam. ( you can use any other cam so long as you can import it to you computer.)

Step 2: Import video into flash library.

Step 3: It will ask you for the path to the video, this should already be filled out correctly. Hit Next.

Step 4: It will ask you how you want to deploy your video. Select the option to Embed video in swf and play in time line. Hit Next.

Step 5: It will ask you how you want it imported. From the drop down list select "Embedded Video" , the "expand time line if needed" should already be selected, if not, select it. Hit Next.

Step 6: It will ask you what quality, you can select what ever you want, keep in mind that the video is probably going to be a large file size. You may have to experiment with this.

Step 7: Now drag the video onto the stage. It should ask you if you want to expand the time line, select yes.

Now just make sure you lock the layer with the video and make it your bottom layer. You'll do every thing else it the upper layers.

All sound can be imported separate. I recommend this simply for quality reasons. Usually the audio quality from the Camera mic isn't really that great. You might want to record the sound on a separate mic. But, it's up to you, I just know my web cam isn't the greatest. :)

That's pretty much it. I hope that helped a little.

I am making my own. I am a bit embarrassed, since I am very fat. I also have an annoying voice (At least Luis lowered my concern on that). But hopefully it won't suck too badly. I am going to work on it this weekend.

Hmm this seems like something that could turn out really well or really bad, I guess it depends on the people who submit. I might try my luck at it and if I like it I'll submit it.
