Chymo's Art Sep 27, 2008

Ok so I was browsing around the Art forums and saw that a few people have Art Threads. I've done this a few times on other websites, so I'm no stranger to the concept. I thought it would be highly appropriate to start my own, seen as I've just started Art College. Ok, the only thing that is currently uploaded on this here MacBook, is my GCSE final project. I will be posting some new stuff over the next few days As for now here's my GCSE project, which was based around the Mexican tradition, Dia De Los Muertos (The Day Of The Dead).

I like the style, what i REALLY like is that it's actually colored. Keep it up.

That's really nice! I also appreciate the fact that it's in color, and, even though I would have preferred a scan, you did a nice job of photographing it. You have a nice style and I definitely want to see what they've got you doing in art college.

Looks good; me likes.

Try to make your characters less stiff-looking, though.

Thanks for the nice comments guys! I'd scan it but I don't have an A3 scanner. Sorry. I tried to make them look stiff in order to challenge the viewers perception; which characters are humans, celebrating the tradition, and which characters are spirits. I tried to convey that through the use of the colour as well. The comments are very much appreciated. I'll post some more stuff later today, both older stuff and some new things I've been doodling over the weekend.

This one rocks! Just out of curiousity, because I find your figure construction in these types of sketches interesting, do you start out with a skeletal fram / stick figure and then draw around that? Or are you just freehanding it? Neither answer would imply anything bad - with the guitar player, I think I would have just freehanded it personally, so, I'm just curious.

Yeah man I freehanded it. To be honest I never use skeletal frames, UNLESS it's an awkward postion, or I wanna get it perfect. For instance, with the woman I used a skeletal frame. But with this drawing the anatomy is fairly square anyways, so I got away with it. I was heavily influenced by Jamie Hewlett's work.

Great arywork her mate especially these sketches. Only thing i would suggest is do some shading and make the shadowed lines mroedefined etc...

I know man, that's something I've been trying to do in some of my more recent work like this...

Never expected to be saying this, but, I think I want to see you draw more deranged clowns.

How's art college by the way? Everyone I know who went to art school dropped out, so, hopefully you're having a better time at it.

Response to Chymo's Art Sep 30, 2008

Yeah I'm loving it so far. Thanks for asking. Haha, I love drawing derranged clowns. I've got loads of uploaded pics with em in. They're one of my favourite things.

i have a friend who freehands everything as well, he grabs a pen and starts drawing with no plan and no way to erase. now he has a style all his own, and it's awesome. looks like your headed the same way!

Thankyou for the comment! I really appreciate what you are saying. I know some of the lines look faded on others pieces. But it's mainly because they are unfinished doodles. Also a lot of the stuff is old work. I will be posting newer and newer stuff as it is made. Thankyou again for the inspiration.

Ok here's another of one of my favourite characters ever, Hellboy. And for particularly pedantic people, yes I know it's the wrong way round.
