Reviews for "The Big Fat Tutorial"

<3

That was pretty sweet.

There is just one problem however, all this was useless to me as i cannot draw for toffee :P. If i could draw im sure this would be hella useful.

However the masking thing was pretty cool, i may try that out sometime.

However, these things take so much time, and seenas i spend basically all my time studying/working on my MMORPG, i have little time to work on my flash skills, although i am getting better!

Anyway, good job on this, great tutorial :D. Next time maybe you could write one on telling us how to draw and optimize shadowing, and maybe one on actionscript? :).

Helbereth responds:

Learning to draw came first loooong before flash. Which MMORPG?

hmm... shadowing is a possibility. however I know jack crap about action script. We'll see what happens though.

Thanks for the review!

It's very rare I give someone a 10.

But you deserve it! This is by far THE GREATEST tutorial on Newgrounds. Your graphics are simply incredible. I couldn't believe my eyes when I first saw it. Oh, and thanks A LOT for the masking tutorial. Masking confusedf the hell out of me. Also, thanks A TON for putting that scripted camera in. It's simply god-like. Seriously. Please, make more tutorials. This is great!

P.S. What was with the crashing plane?! It had me cracking up!

Helbereth responds:

Thanks, I tried to make it visually pleasing and intellectually informative. I already plan to make another - just not immediately.

The crashing plane was completely random and pretty much pointless. The idea came when i was writing that section of the tutorial. Something about 'layer planes' sparked me to comment that 'no we're not going on an airplane'...

So initially I made the plane and just flew it by...

Then I thought... 'there aren't supposed to be any planes, and this might confuse people'... so I made it crash and burn, just to seal the deal.

Doing that plane is what sparked me to expand the scope of the buttons and extras. I figured 'well, that was fun... I'll make more!'.

Anyway, thanks for the compliments and the review!

Tutorials usually please me. But this one takes the cake so far. Great graphics... I'm so pumped about the little logo you used for my song, most people have no idea what shadwrun is, so you get big props for that. I like the other sound and song selections you used as well, very tasteful. This as interactive as it gets, so again perfect score. This bogs down slower machines, but it is well done. Using action script is a gift and you certainly have it! Thanks for using my song too! Keep up the amazing work.

Helbereth responds:

Yeah I realize that about Shadowrun. In the 'fun with masking' easter egg I described it as a cult favorit RPG for a reason. It has a hardcore following, but most people never heard of it. The game kicked arse, though. I haven't seen many remixes from Shadowrun as a result.

The logo (in fact all of them) I drew freehand in flash without a visual aide. I drew Jake from memory (I think I got the glasses wrong, but oh well).

Actionscript gift?
All I did is buttons for moving around the tutorial and music... 0.0. Otherwise I'm AS inept. I find myself spending hours trying to figure out how to animate things people do with actionscript without the actionscript =)

Anyway, thanks for the compliments and the review! Make more Shadowrun remixes!

Awesome, nice job !

This is the best Flash tutorial I've seen on this site yet !
Absolutely fantastic !

Helbereth responds:

Well thank you. I dunno about best, but I try.

Thanks for the review!

Nice job!

The eye (and ear) candy was very nice, as well as the wealth of knowledge in this flash. All in all, nicely done. :)

By the by, glad to know there are other people who remember the SNES Shadowrun game.
