Reviews for "The Big Fat Tutorial"

Nice Tutorial

Bit small though, so i dont know why its called big fat tutorial.
Good job on beating my Tutorials score, althoug it will probably get lower after a while, happened the same with my tutorial (first was 4.19, now its only 4.01)

Anyways, good job, covered some things i didn't yet cover in Ultimate Tutorial 2. The layout also is pretty cool.

Btw, what do ya say if we make a tutorial together once? I bet it will make top 50 :)

Helbereth responds:

Well thanks. Nice to know other tutorial makers (and good ones, might I add) like this tutorial.

I'm hoping the score stays above 4.0 (I think everyone hopes that when they submit something), but I'm sure it will eventually drop down a bit (lowest I saw it was 4.03).

About the collaboration, I think I might just stick to making animated shorts for a while. I plan to take a week off from flash (and get some sleep). My email address is in the credits and my comments, so you can contact me about a possible collaboration.

OMG A KEEPER!

those other tutorials should stay blammed forever! This one pwnz!

Now enough of that, the only thing that you didn't take much thought into was explaining the masking part. I don't have the actual flash program, so I guess I'm missing something, although you should have done a better job of explaining it. Also, the cinematic slides in your last tutorial needs working on. Last but not least, your flash is a little on the heavy side in the lag factor compared to the overall average lag of the other flash movies, of which I should say runs pretty smoothly on my crappy computer.

BTW, I found all three major easter eggs! Mwahahaha! One's a sound test (tell nobody!) another gives the history of the games which you borrowed music from (which also contains a message pointing to the sound test) and the last one has the statistics of each of your animations. By "easy to find", I think you actually meant using the cheapo button though. Ever thought about proofing against that? (it's possible, but then one of the easter eggs would be disastrously hard to find)

Helbereth responds:

It does tend to be graphic intensive, I realize. I reccomended medium or low quality settings for some sections. I have ways to help the lag, but it doesn't work on a paused frame (and this being a tutorial, it's loaded with them).

The masking section is really explaining a simple thing. It's a cookie cutter effect - it just requires a lot of forethought.

I chose not to have the buttons be completely hidden because - honestly - the easter eggs are informative as much as they're fun. I didn't want them to be impossible to find. I'm not sure which one you think would have been impossible to locate otherwise (I have some idea) but I chose to offer little hints here and there. Heck there's a message onscreen in the credits that says when there's a button there...

I actually used the one in the credits so that people would watch them (sneaky).

The cinematic slides were done this-afternoon. I literally only spent 20 mins making all three. I've done much better slide effects... I just wanted to demonstrate them.

omg, thank you!

FINALLY, a way to teach my friends without actually teaching them LOL. I hate being bugged by my friends to help em wit flash works.. you just saved me hours of sleep =)

Helbereth responds:

Hey, any way I can. I was probably the guy asking those retarded questions about this time last year, so I know how that is...

Nice!

Wow, this just might make me start creating my own flash.

Otherwise, it was a great look into the flash process, great tutorial indeed!

Talk about, user-friendly. =)

Helbereth responds:

First I'm helping people, now I'm inspiring people.

*shifty eyes*

*head explodes*

All my 5 belong to this Toot!

Awesome toot, being a newbie flash animator. It was extremely helpful. Rawk on mang and thx!

Helbereth responds:

Half of that is beyond my level of d00d speak comprehension, but I'll take it as a compliment. Thanks!
