Disney did create Mickey Mouse himself! He thought up Mickey (originally wanting to name him Mortimer, after a mouse he had) on a train ride back to his studio from a meeting with his producer, who threatened to take over his Oswald The Rabbit series, Iwerks helped him, but it was all Disney's Idea!
