Reviews for "Jack French #1"

@Dragonhermit You do realize you can be an orphan and still have parents right? A lot of times the child is given up for adoption or their parents die. As for your other example, that's your job as Jack French. You are solving the crime. You have to figure it out. If you actually new what happened, it wouldn't be much of a game. With that said, even with professional development companies, there are mistakes. I haven't played this game in years. I'm just ecstatic that they haven't removed it from the site. Thank you, Newgrounds! Another reason why you guys are one of the best sites with this sort of related content out there!

With all the positive reviews, I was expecting a winner, but there were SOOO many errors in the dialogue! For example, everybody keeps saying she's an orphan, then saying she inherited money from her parents. Another example? Detective will call her death a suicide, then call it murder, then the next line of questions calls it a suicide again. Hard to solve a mystery when the protagonist can't even get his story straight. Such a disappointment!

I love this game. I think my favourite game is detective games. I proper love detective games. I found the game a bit short and easy. The thing that put me off know is the nudity. I mean its alright but....
Cant wait to play the second game of Jack French. I love the series of Jack french.

Could use some work....

Overall, a decent game, but there were some noticeable flaws, first of all, though it started quite well, the linear method the game was played made it seem repetitive and boring, in addition, though there was alot of potentially deep plot points, they were all neglected, for what seemed like an incredibly rushed cliffhanger ending.
Which in itself, while not terrible, was out of the blue, no real lead up....suspense, or such.
The gameplay itself, was incredibly simple, though thats not nessecarily a bad thing, combined with the short duration, rushed finish, lack of immersion, and relatively weak dialogue really killed it for me.
Personally I would suggest working more on the character backgrounds, the obviously unstable driver for example had alot of potential, as did the points with the politician.
If a bit more effort was put into the story, better dialogue, the other flaws could be overlooked abit.
One last note however, is the murderer and the cliff hanger ending. (You stop it with the detective alone and unarmed against an incredibly unstable killer?)
When I hit the end I was suprised...there was absolutely no lead up to it, if for example, there was..lets say a background check on him, then you find out about his disorders, or even a shrine to the girl, or something...Just anything to really expand the character concepts so that the game has some sort of immersion.
Overall, I rate it 3/10, despite its flaws, the stories potential makes me wanting a remake that offers more character depth, which is a staple necessity for detective games.

Sorry to say this but...

Art could do with some work, there were a couple of bugs with the mouse pointer (although the game still played) and the voice acting was terrible. i think the game may have glitched a couple of times where it cut off the voice mid sentence.

the story was good but there could have been a lot more to it, a save or retry system where the wrong questions lost you the game.
