Truly is a classic

~The good~

This is the one that started it all, it is classy, and started many gothic stereotypes, which is something you can be proud of. The graphics were as good as they were, before, not horrible, and the background was done very nicely. The bosses are a big part of this game and give it a lot of diversity, and originality. The controls are very well done as well. Lastly, the music was spot on and fit to the twistedness of this game.

~The bad~

It's exactly the same as before, some little extra features would be very nice of you. The music could get a little annoying, I found myself lowering the volume half was through. The most annoying thing were some of the bosses, they were just was too cheap.

Overall, good to see you finally bring this game to the portal. Happy Pico Day, Tom!

The one that started it all.

It’s good to see that you’re submitting all your old flash to the portal. It reminds me of how good of a place NG is. It’s pretty amazing to think that this was made entirely with Flash 3. Animation techniques have evolved so much since then. That should give you some thoughts about Pico 2. That is, if you ever get it done you lazy ass. Thanks for the memories!

The greatest Flash game of its time, but...

...it definitely shows its age. I have very fond memories of the original Pico, and playing it again is certainly a joy. But Flash technology has improved since this game was made, as have Flash artists. The 4.52 score that this game has at this writing would put it at #1 all-time on the Portal, and I don't think it deserves that. There have been much better games made since then, both by Tom Fulp himself and by other artists.

But you do have to give it credit--Pico, along with Assassin, was hugely popular in Newgrounds' earlier days, and it helped bring about the transformation of Newgrounds from a site for Tom Fulp's personal things (Flash and otherwise) into the huge community of Flash artists that it is today. Newgrounds would not be what it is today without it.

Up until I played this, I was beginning to think that Pico day was going to be just another crappy day for NG, with a bunch of shit pouring into the portal, but Tom, I have new respect for you. This game is freaking amazing. It was straightforward, yet still had a lot of challenge in it and was hella fun. This is one of the few games on NG that I actually spent a good amount of time playing, which says a lot. The constantly changing music and sound effects is great, and the options you have while playing are great. Very well presented and excellently prepared!
