Reviews for "Antwon Fang"

feeling uninspired?

The Adam Phillips homage and/or rip off seemed to rely very much on aspects of the Brackenwood stories without the ability to motivate that story or captivate the audience. The apparent lack of identity makes it very difficult for me to feel happy at the end of the viewing, however, every great band did covers in a garage at one point. Keep it up!

A fairly original piece of work!

I chuckled when I saw the last review, labeling you as an Adam Phillips imitator. This was hardly the case. Not every animation with backgrounds featuring well-drawn nature scenes (rocks in your case) is a homage to Mr. Phillips.

We'll get down to bare bones: Your main character (Antwon?) had the closest resemblance to Phillips' work, looking like Auld Sage with a bit of hair.

THAT'S ABOUT IT!

Some very original work in there! The fog scene, especially. Beautiful rendering of the trees and rocks in scenes following. A little more detail could've suited Antwon's building more. During the first few scenes after he wakes up and goes outside, there is an absence of of highlighting in both the backgrounds and on Antwon's fur. In some places, he appears terribly flat in comparison to the background. The two main instances of this was when he walked out of the shade of his house and second when he walked under the tree. Also, his anatomy (simple as it is) is off when he reaches inside the hive to pull the bunch of flowers out, the left arm looked far too stretched.

It was very refreshing to see bits and gadgets of technology here and there in the rural setting. Creates mystery.

Your timing was excellent!--- I laughed my ass off throughout the course of the movie. When he eats the dandelion and the cut-to-black when the hive falls on his head... You've a very natural sense of anticipation. The sirens going off inside the larger-than-life hive was a completely surreal and hilarious experience.

- Sound -
The music went well with the movie for the most part. The opening was spot on. In some places it stuck out and affected the mood, though. First, the *ZZZZZZZIP* of the record skidding to a halt killed a good vibe you had going. (not to mention it's an over-used punch to begin with.) The setting you've made is so unique, it ruins the authenticity when you throw in a SFX that we immediately relate to every other *ZZZZZZZIP* situation we've heard. The effect is: Us getting pulled out of YOUR world, snap back into the reality of ours. That's the most critical thing I'll say about the production. :)

Great stuff!

? wierd ?

Nice animation, even if it is sorta copied of Adam Phillips, but you 've admitted that which most animators wouldn't do, and I'm pretty sure that Adam would be flattered that somebody as gifted in animating as you should see him as influence, too be honest I was going to give it a low score because I personally don't like the story, but paying attention too it, I realised it's a very neat animation, and infinitely better than anything I, and most wannabe animators will ever be capable of. So well done, look forward to seeing more.

cool.

I appreciate that you admit to being inspired by Brackenwood right off the bat instead of the "gee, what a coincidence, i've never seen Brackenwood in my life" type of crap some artists try to pull off. thanks for not insulting our intelligence.

your animation (and by animation i mean the way the characters move and are brought to life, rather than character design) is top notch, and your storytelling is ace too. if you were to put some effort into original character design, or even colaborate with someone else, as you are obviously an excellent mimic of style, i'm posative you'd have a massive hit on your hands!

you're very much on the right track! hope you post more!

Really good.

Yeah, its basically just AP's style with your own spin on it, but so what?
It was well made and overall an enjoyable movie. I'd like to see more of this in the future, no doubt Adam Phillips would be interested in this aswell, you should slut it around on his forums to get some attention.

Keep it up!
