Reviews for "Sandbox"

Great!

Very addictive.I played for hours.

wow addicting

very fun game however maybe you should have an option to make the sand move faster?

WallArcher responds:

Yeah, it actually should be moving faster, but that would require some additional condition checking and would slow the game down even more.

Awesome game

But it was kinda laggy. Also the graphics weren't good, but I guess that is kinda impossible. Any ways very nice.

This is pretty cool

I like this game. It's cool. I was lost at first because I wasn't bothered to read the instructions. But then when I found out how to play it, I was hooked. Thew memory size will also be helpful for people with slow connections.

Good job.

Relaxing

I doubt this submission will get through the submission process; most Newgrounds users like their games flashier, more violent, and more intense than Sandbox. That said, it is really a very well-done submission. It performed exactly as promised, and apart from a delay while using the bottom buttons, without a hitch. The physics engine was also remarkably polished - I was pleasantly surprised to watch 'sand' forming neat probability distribution curves instead of simply pooling. If nothing else, you could use your skill with particle streams and gravity effects in collaboration with other artists to make realistic games. However, I found your game peaceful and relaxing. I think with a few more options you could make a pretty popular game using the current concept of sand falling. Namely: (1) Place a cursor - even if it's just a white sphere - to let users see where and how big their lines will be. Ditto the eraser option. (2) Allow people to pick the color of their lines and sand. It'll open up the potential to create little pictures with the stuff, or just play with particles to their liking. (3) Add (optional) music. While I, personally, would prefer to view the game in silence, other people would like some background noise - the more choices for it, the better. (4) Allow people to place to place sand 'faucets,' and move the starting ones. (5) Add a low-gravity function. Watching sand bounce off things might be pretty. Well, good luck, and feel free to send a private message if you'd like any more suggestions! P.S. Can I download this from somehow?

WallArcher responds:

Thank you for your suggestions. This did score well below what I expected, but it's exactly like you said; the mainstream audience expects something 'flashier'. Some of the extra functionality you suggested would be a nice add-on, but it would also slow the game down even more. It was quite a challenge to design something like this that would run fast enough. I dont think people on here fully realize or appreciate the technical effort put into it, when it ends up being visually less attractive, or it simply takes more than a minute to understand what it has to offer. Anyway, there is currently no download available, but you can get the game from you temporary internet files. I might be available on my website sometime in the future. Thanks and good luck to you.
