Reviews for "Battle Fish"

exelent work

Hey the song is from zelda wind waker, sweet

Pretty Cool

The best I got was the Laser Gun, so I haven't gotten a chance to try out the Rockets or Ion, but as far as I can tell, this is an amazing strategy game, with no limits.

eggcellent work

you made another excellent game , i liked the idea very original.

Great Job!

As with all of Eggy's games, "Battle Fish" is an original game. As the player, you own(?) a fish who lives somewhere in the ocean. Alas, even the fishies of the sea have struggles. Your fish, a goldfish named Piggles, is under attack from predator fish! You must protect your fish by dropping spiked balls from the surface to impale any enemies, and also heal your fish by sending bubbles up from the ocean floor. As you kill fish, you get money. To further protect your fish, you may equip them with various weapons which are bought from the "Fishy Upgrade Store." Also, you can buy more fish; there truly is strength in numbers... or is there?

Though the game is an original survival game, the style of gameplay required for success prevents use of some features. You can buy up to four fish, and rename them whichever name you want. (The third fish just happens to share my name! <3 Eggy) Otherwise, you can buy weapons, or upgrade the number of spikes or bubbles you can send. It seems that, unless your fish are highly equipped, they will die quickly in the later levels. Thus, your money is much better spent on weapons, and not extra fish. Likewise, since holding the mouse button increases the size of a bubble/spike, there is no need to send more than one at a time; upgrades in the "General" section are rendered useless.

Another problem is in the weapon upgrades themselves. Some of them, even the expensive ones, are of little use, making them a waste of your precious money. You must save for the higher upgrades, and suffer until then. This is fine in the beginning levels, but, as the game progresses, a single mistake can end your poor fishy's fragile life! And yes, the fish are extremely frail in such a harsh seaworld. I found that most of my time was spent sending bubbles to my poor Piggles and letting him shoot/flail/whatever to kill the enemies on his own.

As with many of the games out there, "Battle Fish" was a great idea, but it seems to have been rushed to finish a quota. I would definitely like to see a sequel, but it would need some more features, and better balance. I think it would be great as an adventure game, explaining how Piggles was swimming through the ocean on a quest of some sort. Instead of buying fish, maybe Piggles finds fellow fishies during his journey. In "Battle Fish", there are new enemies that appear, but no explanation of anything. As I said before, the game is based on a great idea, and it is original. However, I don't feel it was developed as far as I could have been. Overall, I have to give it a 7 of 10. Great job on another game, Eggy, and keep up the good work! :)
