Reviews for "Cave of Wonders"

Yummy

Great game, great art.
Loved it :D

A tasty treat!

Glad to see Luis back in action again, albeit in his sleep-things. Fine job here, all. Naturally, i wish there were more to play, but we can't hope for everything all the time. A-plus playing, I beat it on me first try and I did again, hoping to find the secret. Keep the good work up, whenever you feel like working!

Impressive Programming Skills

It has a perfect 2-D platform feel similar to the old SNES "Metroid" games or recent GBA titles.

The controls of the main character was smooth and easy to control.

But what disappoints me is the difficulty.

Beating the game was just far too easy. Mindchamber had a real habit of making games almost unbearably difficult only because I feel that he really puts thought into the bosses and their learned patterns of attacks.

The bosses on your game however...was VERY easy to learn. People who have played and "E" rated Plat-forming games will already have a feel for the basic of learning the bosses' moves.

To defeat the 3rd boss might get some people confused. But it is actually quite simple and similar to something I played in old Metal Slug Games. So defeat ended quite easily.

I appreciate the incredible plat-forming at the last part of the stage. But it was again too much time given to escape, unless there is a "secret" where more time is required.

-------------

In conclusion...

It shows remarkable tallent in videogame programing and stylish art, animation, and music.

But well-seasoned plat-former gamers who are knowledgeable in basics of boss battles will easily solve the patterns.

Easy for some, but an overall fun 5 minute game.

Wonderful!

For all you people that are complaining about the difficulty.... You just need to keep at it. All of the forms have a weakness, you just need to find them.

Loose walk through:
On his first form, immediately run up to Luis and jump up to the first platform. DON'T use the double-jump, because then you will go straight up as you continue to hit him. On the platform, start wailing on him with your A attack. This will give you 3 per hit instead of 1. Right when he starts to charge, do a double-jump and attack your way up and over his head, avoiding it. When Luis is on the right side of the screen, getting to the upper platform is a waste of time. Just run up to him, and start a jump attack and go all the way above his head. Hang out till he goes back to the left side, then do the platform thing again.
Doing this correctly should have him defeated after two 'charges', he'll be on the left side of the screen again.

Second form: As soon as the mini-cinema is done, you should be right on his feet. Start attacking! The second form is only dangerous when he turns into a ball. He should start towards the center of the screen, follow him and keep attacking until his outline turns green. When he's a ball, do your best to dodge. I always stay near the center and run when I need to avoid a bounce. If you spam the attack key enough, you should be able to kill this form with him transforming just once. You really shouldn't use the jump attack at all for this one.

Third form: As soon as you can, run to one side of the screen. The missile should drop and start to follow you around. To dodge it, simply double jump over it. I don't think you can attack it successfully, so don't waste your time. While you're doing this, try to get Luis to drop the blocks in a tower formation. As soon as the beam starts blinking, the target is locked and you can run from the missile which should be about to hit you. Continue until your tower is 3 blocks high; at that point, you can double jump up to the ship and do some damage.
After an amount of time, the missile will blink, which means it's getting ready to explode. Try to lead it away from the block tower you've built. I generally make two towers that I jump between, doing damage during the transition while easily avoiding the missile.

The Last Run: This is pretty straightforward. Take off running. The best advice is just to do it a few times so you know the patterns of the fireballs/crushers. When you have to break through the blocks, go for the bottom ones with the A button attack - using the jump attack takes too much time. Be careful with your jumps and you should be set.

As for the game... It was great! No complaints here! The one life thing was only frustrating before I started using strategy and not treating this like a typical go-beat-up-the-bad-guy game. (I know, strategy, thinking.. It's terrible.) The graphics were good, the music fit exceptionally (I can't imagine why, lol). I did encounter the falling through the floor glitch, but I can't reproduce it, so I don't know what the deal is there. I only hit it once, though, so it's probably the exception.
Well, that's that... My best time was 183 seconds ^^

GOOD

man i wish i could make good games as you three
