This was really interesting.
I played long enough to unlock all three characters, loved the Santa ending, loved how well was Kung Fu remade... A really good job, well done graphics, good choice of NES music. This deserves a good score for all the work but isn't much original and won't keep anyone playing for long. Yet the cool little ideas you had there were rewarding and funny.

It's just not quite there. The balance from the original NES game is thrown off, and for the worse in every case. (I lliterally played them side-by-side.)
Maybe if there were new features to make up for this, but there were barely any and they were also usually not good. Different playable characters might have been fun, but I don't feel motivated to unlock them and I doubt they are anything but reskins anyway.
Some things you can improve:
-Lots of enemy designs that are all the same thing merely confuses the player.
-Fire breathing trees fire too low. Your supposed to be able to duck under the fire.
-The bosses in almost every case had more complex patterns with less vulnerability frames and significantly more hp from what I have seen so far. They aren't necessarily harder, but they take much longer to beat which absolutely kills score bonuses and extra lives which are so important in this game.
-Retooling an enemy that is a boss in the original into a normal enemy in your version is extremely hardcore, a bit too much for me.
Oh, and the MAJOR complaint is the fact that the controls suck hardcore. They are sticky, unresponsive, and utterly bad. I have played with buttons that stick on the NES and had more responsive controls. (On this same game mind you.)
Until the controls are fixed to be responsive, this game is pointless.
