Reviews for "Ray Quest"

Interesting game...

Graphics: 10/10. Really, I can't give you anything less. It looks like a 3D DS game
Music And Sound: 5/10. The music was good, but WOW was it repetitive! Maybe a different track for each level, or at least for the bosses? And the sound was nothing special
Concept and Execution: 6/10. Nothing really new for the concept. As for the execution, well, the level up system was good, but there needs to be more of a penalty for dying. Also, the levels were mostly reskins of earlier levels, with a new enemy thrown in every now and then
Controls: 10/10. I LOVE it when the controls are simple and easy to use! Even my laptop could handle it, and it usually has the keys stick when I play flash games, leading to a few instances where I run to my death, with me unable to control it

Total: 31/40 = 7.75/10 = 8/10. Good game, but could use some polishing. All in all, I would play it again. The simplicity, by the way, could make it a good iPhone game. Just give it that little bit of polish, and I would certainly get it on my iPhone

Pretty good but...

it could use some improvements, I find it a little bit to easy especially the bosses. The level design gets really repetitive and drag out for way longer than they need to. The controls were responsive for the most part, but sometimes I had a bit of a problem getting the ship to go the way I wanted it when I needed it to.
There also didn't seem to be any penalty for death, maybe more of a reward for people who don't care about the score.

WOTS UP WIV DAT SONG

it gets annoying like so repetitive u shood have a selection of three songs or more coz man dat song sounds like sum chiks saying
ohhh grandad gag gag gaug!! then lig a whole lot of gagging

Not bad, but...

This is a shmup game that works properly, and the graphics were pretty good. It's probably designed with a smooth cruise rather than a bullet hell in mind, so I have nothing against those who vote higher than me.

However, there are some things that I simply didn't like.
1: Only one really good upgrade order, IMO. For me, the ship weapons upgrade was top priority, then Speed when I reached the cap for weapons, and then the ship health upgrade gets delegated to the "choose only when you can't pick anything else due to the level cap" pile. It gives the illusion of choice, and picking health early, for example, would only make your ship some sort of weak tank that can't hit enemies as hard as it should.
2: The levels felt almost identical during each stretch of levels prior to the boss of that zone. At no time were there any real threatening enemies-heck, you could even dodge some of them since they either breeze right past you or they stay at the top of the screen, fire a few bursts, and then leave in the span of a few seconds.
3: The enemy waves themselves were really easy. Since it isn't a 1-shot kill affair and the ship can regain health quite easily, at least, until the later levels where the strength of the green health pickups are drastically less effective compared to the damage of the enemy shots, the only time I really died was when I got too greedy and collided while trying to kill some of the enemies that went past halfway of the screen.

For future shmups like this, you could look up some better bullet patterns. You might want to try googling about Fraxy, a freeware editor/game that lets you create enemies and bullet patterns, for some inspiration. Either that, or add more enemies that aggressively shoot at the player. (If you choose to do this, you might have to tune your coding to make the game not lag like crazy).

Still, if this game engine was made from scratch, then it's pretty good so far.

cool

nice game
