Atmospheric, intense, and just epic overall
I don't enjoy "car" games that much, but there is something about this that kept me glued to the screen until the end. Ever single second of this game had be cringing in my seat as the world around me crumbled under the weight of an unknown virus. Dodging demolished vehicles, helpless citizens, blood thirsty zombies, and a hopeless military front all in an effort to dodge an apocalyptic end. What stood out in this game above all, is the atmosphere.
Of course, the rest is just as good. The upgrade system in conjunction with the fair save system makes us players feel that we really do stand a chance in this impossible situation. But escaping while driving a tank is still quite a feat, and developing strategies for each part of the city makes it far more rewarding when you see that tunnel approaching in the distance. Hearing the bomber count down the final seconds as the music dimmed...the zombies moaning, and the last few citizens screaming gave me a remarkable feeling of accomplishment. I honestly felt like I just escaped my own death.
Truly a masterpiece that will be remembered forever. The other side game modes adds to the fun, but the Great Escape is definitely where the action is here. Everything about it was perfect, and the world that was created outside of the car feels lifelike. Hopeless, determined, and heart-felt. Hearing the commanding officer congratulating and supporting the last of his troops even though he knows whats about to happen, added to the epilogue makes the ending truly tragic. I can only imagine what a sequel would produce, (if any,) but I can't think on how this can be topped. However, looking at how this was executed, I'll keep my hopes up.
Congratulations on a job well done, truly a masterpiece that I will never forget.
