Reviews for "The Last Stand Union City"

awesome

just be bloody glad this game came out cause people wanted another last stand it could of been this or a crappy no canon version game but I rather prefer this over 9000 thumbs up!

Good game, but some problems with it.

Already played it on Kongregate. Died at the end to the grabby zombie QTE in the finale massive horde of doom.

The game is fun and well made for most intent and purposes.. i love exploration. I love looting. I love fighting. I love killing zomibes. I like how it generally works very well.. but there are several things that are just so frustrating (when they shoudnt) that it really prevents me from trully enjoying it.

My first gripe is the companion AI and gameplay stuff about it.
When he dies, he can -never- be ressurected (as far as i know, and i hate this cheap design decision, It really makes me want to stop playing right there.) With their death we lose more than half our potential firepower, WITH THE WEAPON TOO when the ally dies.
Even when we often inevitably die too in the same event, they dont respawn with us either (and we get an XP penalty for it too! This is just adding insult to injury.) Now whenever my ally die i just restart the game without saving... but god help me if i change room, cuz (unless im mistaken) the game autosave constantly.. hence making my loss trully permanent.
Why take an XP loss, losing a powerfull gun, losing an irremplaceable ally and keep going from there? Its not fun, or at least i don't enjoy that at all.
Seriously, of all the things, fix that.

And the companion AI never tries to avoid melee, they will stand there in front of a horde, never retreating, kiting or getting safely behind us (allies must be given guns: unlimited ammo, and they are useless in melee, give them automatics, not 'nade launchers). Plus they tend to lag behind us quite a bit so im never sure of how i should move to keep things safe.

ANother gripe is the grabby zombies QTE. If it happens due to a horde event, im almost guaranteed to take at least 15-20% damage, and its takes a while to get out of. I often die only because of that grabby gimmick.

On the matter, Horde events are (as far as i could try) unavoidable. Once started they will come to you, regardless of everything i try to avoid it.
And on related note, horde events sometimes appear on map edge as soon as we "spawn", making me and my ally right in melee with the horde.. and thus the ally die (due to its stupidity) and i might follow soon after.

Skills in weaponry. Even without skills in guns, automatic weapons are the only ranged weaponry worth using, they are varied, powerfull and usefull against horde events due to bullet piercing. Pistols are too weak and low-cap to be of use (and useless in horde events) , rifles such as snipers and shotties are (i guess here, since i never used them) unllikely to be usefull, with their low cap and low ROF. Specials are too rare to be of consequence, and as such not worth the skill points.
I can still appreciate the variety and realistic feel of all of it, but from a gameplay p-o-v i really dont see the benefit of using anything but automatics.

And as for melee combat, blunt is good early to due an aboundance of blunt stuff early in the game, but bladed got uber-uniques later in the game (battle axe and katana that i saw).

Stash could be bigger, just 30 pounds is nothing. I only use it to stash skills books for later use, when i can boost their worth As far as i understood it, it takes both Intelligence and "smart" to increase the skill bonus.

Is there armor beside the "survival" skill? Do clothes give any protection or are they just cosmetic? The Haz-Mat suit sure is heavy, but does it have any gameplay benefit? Same with the military armor.. is there a point in using it beside that it look awesome?

The stats dont feel balanced. I "dump" stat Precision and Endurance, since they seem to have little gameplay influence. STR stay at 6-7 for the weight. Luck and Int are maxed out.

I played both Run'n'gun and survival. Both play pretty much the same. Not much harder in survival when you focus on melee.

Anyway. Still 4/5 9/10. Very well done. Fun. Got his nice perks, got his flaws. Still a game i reccomend to play despite how long i wrote about how i diliked some of the flaws.

Magnificent!

Honestly, one of the greatest games on newgrounds! I wish you could have party member stats also, like to be able to equip a follower with gear so that maybe they can have more characteristic to them. Awesome game! 10/10!

great game

my only problem with it is the last run for the boat it started 2 lagg i died 4 times due to it

Fun, buggy

I love it! It's like Fallout, except with more zombies. That said, my advice to the player is to save often. It's got some bugs.

I would have played further, but I found a bug that abruptly ended my fun: if you get "held" by a zombie so that you have to tap D, then your companion kills the zombie holding you, the game flips out. Just weird things--first I couldn't move, then I got moving and my melee weapon turned into a ranged weapon so that I could shoot with my cricket bat, then my companion started teleporting around randomly, then an invisible zombie killed me. I hadn't saved in a while so decided to wait for the update and try again.

Con-Artist, you have once again made a winner. Seriously, your games are some of the best around!
