Reviews for "Arzea"

Quite Good, one thing though, I quit it, then continue and my map was unexplored again!?

I'm level 29 and I haven't gotten the lvl 15 medal... but I think this has something to do with Google Chrome.
Still a fun game though

First of all: This game seems very similar to Diamond Hollow 2, with a few key differences such as a single map and no money. Inspiration has probably been drawn there.

- The gameplay is solid, controls smooth, responsive and self-explanatory, user interface makes sense and is accessible. While playing, one thing I disliked was it's difficulty, or lack thereof. The more I played, the easier tha game got. With very fast leveling and stat growth (which increased damage and reduced charge time), soon most monsters died with one or two charge shots.
- Another thing reducing difficulty was unbalanced spells. I found myself using only one spell the whole game: the second one, water. It was simply so overpowered, it could destroy a roomful of monsters in one shot if lucky enough. I did not even need to aim properly, I just spammed the screen with it.
- In the beginning I was careful to watch my health, but as the game progressed and I got more heart containers, I found myself steamrolling and running through everything, as the checkpoints were always in close proximity, reducing difficulty even further. If I died, it wasn't due to my health running out, but rather a projectile knocking me in the lava.
- The enemies in this game are predictable and somewhat unimaginative. Their difficulty in the end equaled to the amount of projectiled they were capable of shooting. Bosses proved to be no match at all. Although the enemies were easy to beat, there was something captivating about the senseless spamming and seeing the large damage numbers.
- Thanks to the map, navigating was easy and gave a good sense of where the remaining hidden bonuses, keys, powerups and fragments might be. I'm unsure if it was intentional for map not to stay explored between gaming sessions, but it was slightly frustrating after completing the game first time and trying to continue and get all the fragments.

- The graphics are appealing, crisp and pleasant to look at, although the world seems to lack some detail in general. It would have been nice to see some shrubbery or rocks on the foreground. Every area looked the same, with just colors swapped to match the theme.

- The music is pleasant and does not get annoying, which is a great plus. It would have been nicer if there was actually more music, despite the main stage theme being great, it started to feel bland to hear it over and over again. I was actually hoping that different themed areas would have different music. The boss theme was nice as well.

- Story existed, but it was not something that sucked me into the game. I found myself simply skimming through the little story pieces that were in the game to get the general gist of it, only to forget it a few minutes later, as I was spamming water at the enemies.

- Summary: While obviously having taken inspiration from Diamond Hollow 2, Arzea has good controls, appealing graphics and some senseless grinding for experiene in the company of good, but unvaried music.

This was really a very nicely done cartoon even though I was somewhat confused by it. It was hard to notice that you had to collect so many items just to get onto the next stage. I will give you credit for creating a game that has really good atmosphere. I think the most annoying thing might have been how the enemies came back to life when you died. It's just hard to go on when there are so many different ways to go in this weird labyrinth. A less frustrated person will get farther than me.

I swear it's going to take forever for me to get used to this new format. Oh well, at least there are some pretty awesome games to play in the meantime. I think the sounds were really good in this. It really gives you a good feeling that you exist in this large world and want to go out and have an adventure. I wasn't even sure what the main character was supposed to be, until I read the description.

A cool Metroid like game.
