Reviews for "Perdition"

I always did like the idea of being able to choose the path, it's almost like real life. You're living you're life, and in in life, you make choices, and there is no designated path that you're supposed to go. Sometimes, though, there is no right or wrong path.

I guess it's really up to you, (the player) the actual person who is living their life and making choices to decide.

The design of your game, the mood, and even the main character, makes me recall another game that's also here on Newgrounds called "Gyossait," a retro horror 2D platformer game (much like your own, kind of). Both are fairly similar, even right down to the shaking of the red tinged dialogue in the intro of the game. So much so, that I though for sure that Amon26 actually did it. (Maybe you were inspired by them?)

So much like the the ominous voice from the game "Loved," you used a similar concept of how the player (you) can choose to either listen, disobey, or maybe fall semi in between. From telling you to kill yourself, to taking a certain path in the beginning, you don't know where the voice comes from, nor can you see who is giving the commands.

The more I played the game, even just by what I could infer from the beginning, you were really inspired by these two games (I'm pretty sure there are more that you used for reference). I've played both and I enjoyed them immensely. Even when the Voice from Above berates you for your defiance, insulting you, was so reminiscent to "Loved" by AlexanderOcias.

"You do not deserve it."

Wow. Just wow.

Don't get me wrong. I think it was so cool how you took the components that made each of those works so great, and used it in your own unique way. In "Perdition," you are an android (I want to say female, since the proportions of the body, are in a way, resembling the curves of a woman. Or maybe I'm just staring too much at the bust), who, unlike their brothers and sisters, achieved free will. Whatever you do with it from that point on is all you.

"Did we enjoy our little rebellion?"

That line made me feel like such a child being scolded by their parent, it was so patronizing and almost funny. That being said, I also couldn't help but to be delighted when the Voice presented me with a wonderful gift, a sword with which I could finally defend myself after being killed so many times.

I felt myself in the arms of an abusive lover, stroking my hair and gently kissing the bruises on my battered body after beating me senseless. Wonderful to be around with when they're pleased, but you will feel their wrath if they are displeased.

However, the game does have its drawbacks. Twice it's glitched up, the first being when I reenter the abyss and I'm riding the elevator down after I killed the android (Just as the voice told me to). I happened to be playing around with my new sword when the elevator just kept going, and I was just hearing the clanking noises but nothing else happened.

The second glitch occurred after I received the gun laser cannon and I had just blown through the enemies. I also happened to be playing around with gun, shooting round' and round' when the screen suddenly froze. Unfortunately, I had to start over again.

Other than that, I think you had a really good premise for the game. The music really set the tone for what was going to occur, it was totally atmospheric, moody, and creepy at times, and the concepts were really interesting.

4.5!

Game is great loved it.
would give more stars but it broke on me when i used the gun. you said it should be solved but it still freezes. Don't blame you though
It's challenging and your heart beats fast just by making right or wrong decisions. Which path to choose and yet witch one is right.
It's a good game but i'll play again when i feel like it.
>_< made it so far and spended 20 minutes on this game but then the gun killed me. oh well

game freeze after shot enemy.....
damn...

Great game - I love the concept, the art style, and the music. Only problem I had is that there is a dead end. When the overlord guy (the one that isn't Tanas) tells you to return to the abyss after having gone to the top of the tower where wires meet, if you decide to try to go to the top again - you get stuck. The symbol that returns you to above the abyss is consumed and there is no way out. I recommend making that symbol reusable and have the dialogue reappear.
Also a small thing - I think a slower move speed and maybe a unique animation when pushing blocks would help make the game feel nice - it mostly feels really satisfying to play.

I love the atmosphere of this game. It's eye-catching and vibrant, despite being primarily duochromatic. I would have given five stars if not for how buggy the controls are. I skimmed through the comments to see if anyone else was having this issue, but I didn't find much. The android will continue running after I've released the arrow keys, won't always jump when I hit "x", and occasionally won't jump when she's already in motion. I hate that something so technical has taken away from the experience, but all in all, I still adore this game. All aspects of the creative side are beautifully rendered and polished.
