Great game, but...
The last boss battle just wasn't very good in my opinion. It was interesting enough, but IMO you shouldn't ever HAVE to take damage. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't even be possible to beat the boss with just 1 life; even if you never got hit by the PPGs or his axe, you are guaranteed to take damage every few hits. I also wouldn't exactly call it a "bug", but often times you are taking damage again just as soon as you get up from his attack, something I couldn't figure a reasonable way to avoid and which, for me, kinda ruined the game. The graphics and sound are great for what it is, and the programming was basically flawless, I just had to count off for that.
