Honestly, it looks really good! Love the textures!
The initial idea I had in mind for my pipedream future action-RPG project was a sidescroller with some kind of finnicky tile-based overworld map system, but over the past week or so I've been thinking an isometric structure would be better both in terms of open world and dungeon layout.
It's a finnicky perspective to work with (and that's just the spritework!) but in the case of a game with multiple playable races, character customization, dozens of armor and weapon pieces, and a slew of complex baddies, only having to draw things twice as opposed to the three times a traditional topdown angle requires will be a huge time saver.
Honestly, it looks really good! Love the textures!
Unfortunately even just since posting this, I'm already kinda falling out of love with the idea. Isometric, it turns out, isn't quite as simple as just drawing your tiles at a funny angle, and when it comes to something already as hefty as a full action RPG... you kinda have to pick and choose what extra work you will and won't make for yourself.
