Is it wrong to say that people who draw Ren and Stimpy as WILD and zany as possible are trying to hard? Sometimes down playing expressions and poses to just doing 'normal' things can be as impressive has the wild takes. You do the wild takes when they matter. Otherwise chill out.
I really like the chiaroscuro thing you got going with the shadows in this one. It's very dimensional.

i think the whole point was that Ren and Stimpy were the definition of zany and wacky. honesty the more squashy and stretchy a character is the more life they have. that's kinda the reason older cartoons made fun characters like this.
