The way you combined the sorta simple character and the detailed background worked really well to give the outlined character a bigger emphasis.
Also, grate composition, nice use of rule of thirds.

I agree with Coolkitten, the environment looks really good, with the coloring and the stone texture, The mount on the left has some really good depth, more so than the archway. I really like how the walkway uses plays with perspective as well.
