Sally was the easy part! The beast stumped me because I had the idea of this giant dead mouth behind her, but was clueless what the rest of it would look like. After looking at one of my dinosaur toys, I roughed out some structure and I did the only rational thing I could and googled "Jack Kirby Monsters." If you need to steal ideas steal from the best! Which reminds me. The initial concept of this barbarian woman was inspired by a piece called “Come at me, bro!” by Daniel Landerman I saw scrolling through instagram.
For me this became sort of a nod to the old Marvel Conan the Barbarian comics from the 70s. (She carries Conan's sword too) The rich colors but strong lines are very much inspired by that.
The story here is that Sally is this Valkyrie she-devil type who roams the lands and won't hesitate to cut down any foe in her way (no matter the size.) I imagined her being attacked by a group of bandits only to stumble upon a sleeping beast. They flee and she battles the beast herself. However, her hits don't phase it. Finally in classic Conan/Hercules fashion, allows herself to be swallowed by the beast only to cut her way thought it. After emerging from the mouth of the dead beast, she quickly finds the startled bandits looking on her in fear to which she says. "Whose next?"
I'd like to continue with this concept at some point. Should I?
