Leap of Love

Share

Hello there fellow earthling,
and thank you very much for having a look at my entry for Jazzas Contest for the Month of February. The theme was “Robomance”, draw an illustration depicting a romantic scene between a Robot and a Human.

Love requires a leap of faith. To love and to be loved isn’t always easy and oftentimes it’s frightening and intimidating. Not only do we have to trust the person we hold dear and let our guards down to let them see us for who we are, but we also have to trust others in our lives, to respect our choices.

I am not here to lecture you on being accepting, I trust that you already are. But this month’s theme got me thinking about the real world analogies it implies.
We might not yet be confronted with human-robot relationships, but pondering about how we would deal with this kind of love, might serve as a mirror, on how we treat people who love and are loved in a way we cannot fully understand. In the past, some of us had to face many obstacles to be with the person they chose and some still have to.
Now, love or romance can mean many things for different people and I am certainly no expert on it, but there is one thing even I understand: It is important to all of us. We all seek for it in some ways, we all need to be loved and love another and no, that’s not me being tacky, it’s just a complicated yet so simple fact of life. And this uniting trait we humans share with another really should be the only thing that matters.

Love requires a leap of faith and we all deserve to take the plunge. We shouldn’t be held back so when we are ready to let go, we are free to jump.

Alright, that’s it for my justification for this rather kitschy illustration I made. What shall I say, I like clouds ;)
To be honest, the cloud-count on this one goes back to my frustration with this darn robot of mine – I just needed something relaxing to paint between the nervewrecking adventure that was drawing a robot.
Also, quick tip: Striped pants might be fun to wear but a nightmare to paint ;)

Now, onto the more serious part: Resources and materials I’ve used, dun dun duuun!
- No photo or concept references used for the characters. It was all in my brain, bitches :P
- Several photos used as colour references for the background
- I mainly used a hard edged angled brush (taken from Sycra's CS6 Brush Presets Collection) as well as a standard round brush
- I made a texture brush for the metal parts using a photo of some leaves I made a while ago. Just let me know if you are interested in that one.
- Texture Stock used for the cardigan as well as the dust specks. Sadly I can’t remember where I got that from, sorry.
- My ancient Bamboo Fun

Congrats fellow earthling, you’ve made it to the end of my ramblings – You may now kiss the robot.
Good luck to the other contestants and as always: Best wishes and have an awesometacular day!

Looks awesome I like the colors you used for the sky.

Beautiful.

Wow! Gorgeous lighting effects. It's somber but warm, I like it.
