As an USA based Muppet fan/artist, it would probably come as a surprise that I love a different countries' Sesame Street, the one in Germany; Sesamstraße. This co-production started airing on January 8th, 1973, originally using dubbed street scenes from the original show. German Muppets and sets were created in 1978, and the rest is history. Here's to a very fun 50 years of Sesamstraße!
Samson is a giant bear, who was the star of the show until 2012. He continues to appear in a few episodes to this day.
Tiffy was a pink bird, who in 2001, later became a "monster child". Tiffy was retired from the show in 2005. This drawing depicts her original design.
Finchen is a snail who originally was a male character, but in the 90s was changed to be female. Finchen still appears on the show today.
All three of these characters also appeared on the American special "Sesame Street Stays Up Late" in 1993. Said special also was dubbed into German.
