In Grandma's Garden (b-underthesurface)

This is my entry for Jazza's November Challenge. The piece is inspired by fablehaven. On the top half there is a beautiful, mystical looking tree, the bottom half reveals that the trees roots are being used as a cage for a demon. If the tree were to be chopped down its magic would cease and the demon would be set loose.

Hi, i'm known on the internet as Cloudy and i'm 13. This is my second time entering Jazza's challenge and i'm hoping for the best. For this project I used a free drawing app on my tablet. Getting a drawing tablet from this contest would be awesome and im really hoping to place in the contest.

Here is my work in progress for this piece: https://cloudypages.deviantart.com/art/Underthesurface-Wip-713370279

your drawing is very gorgeous, i am 2 years older then you and this is my first year entering. i wish you the best.

CloudyPages responds:

Thank you, best of luck :)

honestly they should use this as a poster to make people stop chopping down trees lol. great job with this piece. nice solid colors and shading. i was hoping to make runner up but after seeing this, im not so sure. i hope u get in the video!

CloudyPages responds:

I didn't realize that this could be used as a save the forest poster, well at least im unintentionally supporting good things :V Thanks i'm really glad you like it.

Also, I saw yours and thought it was really funny and well made, if you dont place in this contest you probably will in a future one.

This is amazing

CloudyPages responds:

Thanks :)

A year and a half, with this level of quality shouldn't be considered beginner level dude xD But that's not up to me to determine, so best of luck on the CotM! The contrast is actually very prominent and your title alone gives the piece an excellent mystical feel. There are mistakes that made the piece less believable like those lighting on the roots and the awkward angle of the swing, but concept-wise this one's a winner!

CloudyPages responds:

Thanks, I really appreciate constructive criticism and truthfulness. The swing is supposed to be swinging and I did notice the problem with the roots after I had downloaded my Project and WIP piece. I would consider myself a beginner though, Ive never taken any classes or lessons, I use super cheap software, and I started drawing in the middle of junior high, and now im in my last year of junior high which isnt very long, I just really love art and have been pushing myself to improve, I appreciate that you thinking that way though.

Wow, you did a really good job for a beginner. I hope to see this one in the video.

CloudyPages responds:

Thanks, I hope so too.
