I originally set out to draw an executioner, but after doing some research while looking for references I learned they didn't wear masks or hoods, or even try to conceal their identities. A lot of "executioner masks" you'll find online were actually used on criminals, like the one I put on this character. So I ended up drawing an escaped prisoner instead, and gave him a messer because messers are cool
