During occasional lunch breaks at the shit mines, some lucky chao have their prayers for food answered and are given 1 small potato chip which is viciously devoured.

The jailers have an uncertain - if not at all random - method for selecting the chao who get to eat, so the others stare with grief and great envy until punishment time is due and they're taken to the torture chambers.

Some say these rebellious chao were caught eating prohibited food or were courageous enough to play or sleep during their post.

Since it was probably all at the same time, the jailers strap the chao to a wall with metal chains and lash them over and over until they desperately beg for mercy; often cutting them open to remove by force the fecal matter inside the chao.
