I think you improved on the original by quite a bit. Looks like it would be easy to 3D print.

Hey, thanks! :D Yes, I do often start with a sketch pose using zspheres, and then proceed to working without symmetry, like I did in this case. In only made the head as a separate piece, and then placed it in its right position.
I used to make every model in the t-pose and then tried to pose them using the transpose tool, but I had to make so many corrections later that I decided to just go straight to the final pose since then.
