Since you asked for critique i will try to provide. The reason you see a problem with your shading (I believe) is when you use the shading lines to give the head more demension the shading is all one color. You do seem to know where to put the lines in order to give that effect at least partially you just need to put more layers on each shadeline. (I am not an artist so if this doesn't help sorry)

I could use some serious advice on improving my weaknesses. I really feel my shading/coloring is quite weak here. I could definitely use some advice.
