Cartoon Cutie No15 Laika the Red Dragon

Share

Laika (Raika/Leica) the Red Dragon is one of the protagonists in the Manga and Anime "I've been killing Slime for 300 years and Max out!".

A proud member of the Red Dragon clan (Fire type Dragons) of over 300 years of age, Laika comes to Flatta to face Azusa Aizawa (the Witch of the Highlands) in a challenge when word of her insane level reaches the Dragon's ears.

The Duel ends with Azusa winning but Laika destroys her Highlands home in the process; not wanting to invoke her wrath any further, Laika promises to fix the damages; When she returns, Azusa is surprise to see she has transform into a well manner maid, bringing her own stash of gold to pay the damages and decides to become her assistant and apprentice. Azusa was hesitant at first, but when seeing how a hard worker Laika was in rebuilding her house (making a larger extension to it, which becomes the main residence for all the later characters) as well been reminded of her wasted past life (working all day but never truly living), The Witch of the Highlands accepts Laika as her student, cook and housekeeper, and to teach her to take things easy in life; thus becoming the first member of what would be her ever growing family as the series progresses, and is accepted by the the people of Flatta quite quickly, as they take in great trust Azusa's word after helping the town for three centuries.

While prideful and Arrogant (at first), Laika is really noble, with a sense of honor and hard work, respectful of others and humble, been the more quiet member of the House on the Highlands – this often gives the image of been a virtuous maiden by everyone in Flatta, been compare to an angel in their eyes, something that makes Laika quite bashful, as seen when the cast mounts the Witch Cafe each year (note: in the Manga this happens twice, where as in the anime, is the finale of the Season).

At times this bashful innocence of hers can lead to misunderstandings between her an Azusa, as when Shalsha and Falfa first came an identified themselves (in understandable terms later) as her daughters or when lewd ideas were imply that something may had happen between her and Halkara. For the most part, she holds good relations with all the members of the Highlands household (and visitors), except for Flatorte, a member of the Blue Dragon Clan (Ice Dragons) – natural rivals of the fire Red Dragons and often the two consistently compete for the respect and admiration of Azusa.

Despite been a dragon, and strongest among her clan, Laika has a fear of Giant bugs, as seen in the Manga, when she, Azusa, Flatorte and Beelzebub go to explore a dungeon that is crawling with these Monsters at every level. Her family owns a Hot springs resort, and Laika was popular among the Dragons, likely due to her feats in her school years, which is a Spin Off story in of itself (sadly I had not read this yet), and when not tending to the shores around the house (or in competition with Flatorte) she takes her off time to train to become stronger.

While Laika holds feelings for Azusa, their relation is really akin to sisters, and despite been her senior by a few years, she shows considerable reference to her.

If not traveling by the Beelzebub's Leviathans, Laika will often carry Azusa and the family to other parts of the Continent on long journeys.

She is voice by Kaede Hondo in the Japanese Version and Rachelle Heger in the English Dubbed.
