Sprite Pokémon have always intrigued the imagination of many civilizations, with their superficial mammalian look they have been subject of discussion among researchers. It seems that this group is closely related to Mew (Meus originus), the disputed ancestor to all Pokémon.
The claim that Mew is the first Pokémon has been challenged since the early 90s, since less complex species such as Dhelmise (Dhelmius seacreepens) and Reuniclus (Solosis multiplyus) have been unveiled. As of today, Zygarde’s Cells and Cores (Zygardes orderis) are considered an example of the first form of Pokémon life that evolved on the planet, with Dhelmise being part of the first group of multicellular Pokémon (and possibly their only living member).
Some researchers still attribute the origin of Pokémon to Mew, which is described as an extraterrestrial species that populates other planets and adapts to the new conditions of their new home developing into different species through evolution (including relatively simpler forms like the ones described before). This hypothesis has no real proof, and as of today it is considered highly unlikely.
A new species of Sprite Pokémon described from some fossilized remains shows the first example of adaptation to copy plant life. Sporely (Podlium sporebondia) is described as the first Sprite Pokémon to evolve plant-like organs, mainly on the tip of the tail. Several remains of minuscule spores, similar to the ones seen in many species such as Breloom (Shroomus stretchii) and Jumpluff (Hoppipus windblowii), have been found around the fossil, which implies the Pokémon could also produce said spores. The Purpose is unknown, but probably they were used for defense, as they could swing they tail and release them to ward off any potential threat. This species seems to be an ancestor of Plant and Mushroom Sprite Pokémon.
