I like the details on the shoe sizes.
Randy Cunningham had some nice npc variety too, but that was combined to the super-stylized art style.
These are the background characters for Future Faith. Specifically, they're the characters in Malachi's middle school. Only 2 of them have names and a relationship with the main character, everyone else is just human set dressing.
To explain the creative process I wanted everyone to feel like the main character of their own story. A big issue with many toons I grew up watching, especially action/shounen anime, is that the bg characters are the most milktoast and bland designs next to the leads who are lovingly and beautifully designed. I looked at a lot of 2000s japanese fashion from FRUiTS Magazine, as well as Ken Sugimori, Pokemon/Digimon humans, european sci fi cartoons like Galactik Football, early Sean Galloway, Guri Hiru, and xamag-draws to name a few...
Excited to actually start animating these middle school kids
