SONIC and DC: JUSTICE LEAGUE FREEDOM

I’m sure the Sonic/DC crossover will be fun, but the choices made with Sonic and the DC characters feel like surface level brand synergy and not what works for the characters 

So I did my own take

Sonic is Impulse

The Flash is an Everyman. Comic Barry is a dad, level headed, stern but dorky. Sonic doesn’t fit the bill. But Barry’s grandson, Bart Allen, is pretty much human Sonic. Extroverted, loud, jokey, and very hungry. But has a side of himself that’s noble during serious moments. Impulse also just looks more like Sonic 

Knuckles is Martian Manhunter

Knuckles as Superman fits at first, both are the last of their kind and are very strong. But Clark is charming and open, Knuckles isn’t. Martian Manhunter is closer to Knuckles. They both are strong, but introspective loners. J’onn struggles with relationships, because the first human he met died of fright from seeing him. Both Knuckles and J’onn share something, distance and shame. 

Amy is Wonder Girl 

Amy Rose as Wonder Woman is a big no. Both are compassionate fighters. But if you read Gail Simone, George Perez, or Greg Rucka’s WW books, Diana is very patient. Amy, even at her best, is very reactionary. She wouldn’t be Wonder Woman, but she’d definitely be Wonder Girl. If you don’t know Cassie Sandsmark, read Young Justice ‘97. She is Amy Rose, a plucky teenage girl with a big heart, but way in over her head. 

Silver as Green Lantern

At first, I felt like something was off. But then I kept on thinking throughout a couple days, and it made sense. In the last decade, the Silver cute dork fanon grew. In reality, he’s naïve, but courageous. In Sonic 06 and tie-in media, he’s very bold in his beliefs even when he’s wrong. But that design, not good in my opinion. GL’s get to customize their costume to fit their race/preferences. Silver wouldn’t wear the base uniform in my opinion

Tails is Brainaic 5

Tails being Cyborg is bad. Cyborg has tech smarts. But it’s a means for survival, not a hobby. Tails is a little brother who identifies with his tech smarts. Cyborg is nobody’s little brother. Who’s a skillful and gentle tech smart character that contrasts Sonic as impulse?? Brainiac 5. Now, I haven’t read a lot of DC’s Legion Of Superheroes, but my frame of reference, the 2006 show, Brainiac 5 is Tails. Good friend, extremely smart, and has insecurities

Shadow is Orion

Shadow as Batman just isn’t it. In mainline DC books, Bats has a lot of outward self-control and is an authority figure. Shadow's a rebel with confusing allegiances. Some Sonic media make him a hero others make him a villain. Shadow is also a power based character, Batman isn't. Shadow as Orion makes sense. He's not Peacemaker, he is Darkseid’s son. The dog of apocalypse. A man with evil in his blood, who’s trying so hard to be a hero. That is Shadow the Hedgehog.
