So many shapes and sizes like something out a Dr. Seuss book or maybe it's Splatoon's version of a Hyakki Yagyō. Either way, I've never see anything like them in passing, so good on you for bringing some love to these bizarre side characters.
HO HO HOPE you become a Newgrounds Supporter this year!
We're working hard to give you the best site possible, but we have bills to pay and community support is vital to keep things going and growing. Thank you for considering!
Ooook, guess I lied about the previous artwork possibly being the festive one. Don't give me that comment, even I don't know how my creative mind processes.
I quite like the Memverse and its people that reside in, which is why I feel a little bummed that despite Side Order getting some fanart, there are barely any that focus on certain spots of the Memverse or anything related to these beings, especially Cipher. They're all just as whimsically weird as the ones from Octo Expansion or anything else really. So get this fanart with no one besides them, I'm THAT mean. Also because its general atmosphere feels "white" in way... like Snow White. Also Smollusk is in there because it's taken its bossing attitude from its mother and putting it in better use. By that, I mean telling the people to make... some sort of surprise party for its both mothers and its friends like 8 to see. A shrine if you will.
I've been meaning to give more xmassy outfits for the rest of the citizens besides Smollusk and the taller shrimp species that I've yet to look into (I told you we need to know more about these guys!), but nothing good came out without making them look "disorderly". Just try pretend by thinking that they're getting into the "spirit".
I struggle thinking up the background like usual and wasn't certain how it would turn out, even considered omitting the city part mostly because I was running out of time (this drawing took me 5 days to finish), but it seems the simpler sketchy look kind of meshed well with the gradient+pattern look after all.
Happy Holidays! (for real this time)
Enjoy admiring these virtual oddities do something that's quite rather endearing.
Give out some comments here if you want to talk about it or even fave it if you like it.
Splatoon belongs to Nintendo.
This artwork is made by me.
Posting this in in the middle of carrying older artwork here since today's a special day... which I have made an another one a couple of days that has yet to be posted. That's what happens when I work on artworks like this. Pouring all my attention into these.

Admittedly didn't know about Hyakki Yagyō until I instantly figured out what you meant be that the moment I searched it. And I already knew about some of the Yōkai too. How embarrasing.
Speaking of which, that's probably the main reason why I love Splatoon and I kind of feel it borrows some inspirations from the latter in way (although quite slightly and it may be just an another case of me overlooking over things). The overall design of these creatures are just so captivating. You see the everyday human looking inkling and all of a sudden you find a man with a fishhead seconds after and you won't sit still until you find out more about the world they inhabit in. Then again, they are inspired by the marine life, which yes, also extends to the deep sea.
Amazing :3
