Looks like everytime I make a fanart that features these two, I ought to include a pun that includes "off". Even though it doesn't always have to be the norm.
Actually had a sketch form of this piece since like... july I think? And it looked too funny to not be fully completed in some way.
As far as cut content goes, Marina was intended to be in her humanoid form here, but every angle I tried out with her looked either awkward or not right. Nice that I can always go with her octopus form in case that happens. I like the swim forms if you couldn't tell. They're goofy as heck and they often always provide an unique spin for such drawings like this. Which is why it makes me admittedly disappointed that they often have to be "beautified" to fit their idol look.
Also wanted to include some dialogue, but eventually decided to leave it up to your imagination.
The background, besides the wrinkly bed (also wanted to add in the "wavy sea cucumber ring" pattern on it, but gave up on it afterwards), is simple at best. Kind of want to go back on doing simpler drawings right now ever since I'm limiting my activity here. Not like I didn't have burnouts before, but this one is very much a big one. And also because I'm doing a little bit of traditional art. If only I had my scanner.

Thinking about it, I could totally see a, uh, whatever the term is... "squidling"... "squid kid" staying in their non-humanoid form whenever they're feeling particularly tired or lazy. That and Marina would be even more obnoxious in a taller/larger form while lying on top of Pearl.
Prior to reading your comments, I thought of this and the prior image where Marina was also in her other form and initially wondered if it was a choice to help place more focus on Pearl.
No, inklings are squid kids, the term for their bulbous counterparts is "dumbo kid", trust me, I know this series real good. Heh, I was even going to have her drool on Pearl in sleep like in the Octo Expansion's chat log feature where they were postin photos. That would've been priceless.
This could be the intent, but I am willing to place focus on all characters on equal level every once in a while.
