The Internet of Yesterday

Share

Remember, remember, those nights in September;

Flash in his glory and the Internet was all artist's melting-pot.

It should be no reason why the old Flash animation seasons;

In our hearts and memories ever be forgot.

After a little absence 'round here (and my Supporter status over, don't worry, I'll regain it again soon), here's my tribute to my childhood. I would spend time in my gramps old PC, still running in Windows XP, and do what every other kid back then would do: play and watch Flash games and movies. I had what I like to call the "Mario-Sonic switcheroo fase", where one day I would "worship" Mario and his friends, then play Mario Combat, Super Mario 63 Sunshine and watch Mario Flash animations with dirty jokes my feeble and innocent mind back then wouldn't understand, and then "worship" Sonic and his pals, then play Final Fantasy Sonic X, Sonic XS, Sonic RPG, other countless cheap games and many, MANY Flash animations same mentioned character, like Nazo Unleashed and the Sonic Shorts. Heck, sometimes I even liked both and made crossovers in my imagination, some of them were Super Mario Bros Z and Mario vs Sonic made by VGDC. Then it was going through Youtube and watch funny videos and YTP's, play more games on Miniclip and Armor Games, get some glimpses of what would be my love for TF2 and it's fanbase and Garry's Mod videos that would make me piss myself of laughter, and the list goes on and on and on... Phew, that was a lot of words! ^^;

Anyways, I really love this drawing, as I tried to encapsulate everything from the Internet of days gone. As for 4chan, it's basically another thing I would gain later in my 'hood, all cuz of the 2016 presidentials. Go there on your own risk, and never talk about /b/, it's for your braincells' well being. :p

These old flash games and videos are pretty much the only things I like about the internet. When it comes to YTPs I only watch the old ones involving classic memes such as Hotel Mario, Zelda CD-i, DiC Super Mario cartoons, The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog along with any other classic memes. Those who keep these memes going I am glad they do. The crappy internet we have nowadays is just ruining peoples lives. Plus the new so called memes aren’t even funny. The modern world sucks and nothing is fun anymore. Except when you revisit the old.

TheAsterDood02 responds:

WIse words to live by, Snake. The new memes you laugh but then you forget, like an alcohol addiction that doesn't help alleviate the situation, while old memes are like water, you just can't get enough of it, and it never gets old! It can be used for reactions, for critique, for funnies, anything really, and that's what makes them special and dear to our hearts.

The internet of today could have stayed underground and, with it, healthy and lively with its spirit if it weren't for people thinking it was the future of everything, like a utopia of the sorts. Now everyone wants to have a fucking visor in their eyes with ads 'till their brains rot. (I'm looking at you Apple.)

So basically, in a way, if we were more cautious, we could still be posting simple memes on forums and simple YTPs, vlogs/funny videos and everlasting Flash animations on Youtube, Newgounds, Twitter, MySpace, Facebook, Geocities, 4chan and the likes if it weren't for our ignorance and the greediness of corporations and governments. Sad to see the world becoming more dystopic and cyberpunk-ish as we speak, and maybe one day crumbling into nothingness. Oh well, might as well go out with a glorious bang, right?

I miss the old days of the Internet... and I know that I can never go back...

TheAsterDood02 responds:

Me too, man... I wish I could go back to 2008-2014. I miss that edgy part of the era when the internet wasn't controlled by greedy fat cats who try to be woke n' shit, just guys and girls being themselves and being rewarded with money, fame and respect with no boundaries on their sweet spot on the interwebz. Truly a shame... T_T
