Likid the slug (OC)

Share

Want to take another guess on who I got inspired in this time?

This is the sidequick that I was talking about on the axolotl girl post (https://www.newgrounds.com/art/view/jackalocked/edgy-axolotl-girl-thing-oc).

He's a slug that absorbs liquids (in this case water) that build his physical form thanks to the special shoes he has.

The name "Likid" comes from "liquid" + "kid"

What making poses for specific camera angle renders does to a poor soul...

Development Trivia

As I said before, this project is under-developed, but there's a LOT on this character.

This idea of a slimy creature goes all the wayyyyy back when I was in elementary (3rd grade probably), I was playing on the playground and pretending that I was a monster that could stretch its arms to go from structure to structure (mainly walls & columns).

Many years later, I remembered this memory and decided to make a character based on that, he started as a pink slimy dinosaur-lizard with some shades of green (this not the only character I made that got its origins from some obscure childhood memory!)

I was also trying to merge this concept to another older concept I had (the shadow demon thing is from that older concept. And no that's not the triforce symbol lol, that's supposed to be that triangular representation of the 3 primary colours)

And then I tried to make a prototype on Scratch, where I even made animated vector sprites of that, but I didn't continue the project since I wanted it to be side-scrolling platforming with a chunk system so I could make the level as much detailed as possible, but my coding skills wheren't enough at the time.

If I want to be honest... I don't really remember if I turned this character into Likid or turned into the axolotl girl instead...

(latest build of the prototype, early 2023)

After lots of daydreaming I started imagining a character cast that where all slimy small dinosaurs with different porportions and colour schemes. But never elaborated further.

I eventually abandoned this idea, until I picked up on it again 1-2 years ago and redesigned the characters to their current designs (with some differences obviously).

(old concept from 2023, the axolotl girl was going to be liquid aswell)

I gave the slug some dark origin stories, so I tried to make him more alien like to match the tone but this design made me unconfortable.

His eyes where going to be white with pupils just like the axolotl girl, but I didn't want to make it look like too much that one character where I got a bit inspired in to make him so I made the eyes just black pupils with that outline trying to represent the upper corner of the eye.

I watched a few episodes of Slugterra before but that's not on my inspiration sources for this

For some reason the blue goo-like design reminds me of goo from the season 3 of inanimate insanity (a webshow on youtube) still, I do like how you have been doing 3d moddeling recently (or maybe you do it before and I am just dumb) still cool tho

jackalocked responds:

Thanks! I've been making 3D models for a while (for fun and to be pre-rendered for my 2D games), but I only got the handle of low-poly modeling and (almost) understanding UV maps now so I decided that I was ready to start uploading 3D art.
