Happy Pride Month 2024! Gonna try to do an art challenge for June and create a doodle/art piece everyday.

For day 10, it's In The Closet.

This and yesterday's piece are based on my own life experience with me coming out as nonbinary to my family.

I had gotten my nonbinary flag after I had finally came to terms with me being so, and on the day we were about to head out to it, I came out to them with the flag.

And they called me deranged and delusional.

They said that I've been sucked into a cult and conspiracy to dissolve society from the inside out, Pride Festivals are exactly the same as Trump Rallies, with the mass celebration and gathering., and that everything that Pride stands for isn't real because, "LGBTs are not illegal".

And to top it off, they said that my desire to become physically nonbinary is mentally disturbed.

From then on, I've kept all of my progress towards gender affirmation secret; progress that's made me feel so much better myself and my body. All of my friends use they/them (or he/him) when referring to me, and I've felt more loved by them than my own family.

I wish that my family would accept me for who I truly am. I love them and want to stop feeling so scared when I'm around them. Especially my brother who's said that he wants to gun down droves of trans people.

I hope my story and art resonate with someone, and I hope things get better.
