Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi

Share

It's Puffy AmiYumi! Or at least their animated counterparts from that Cartoon Network show, which is now 20 years old! I feel old saying that... Puffy AmiYumi (or just Puffy) is a J-Rock girl duo who are very famous in their native Japan. And kinda like with The Beatles back in the 1960's, a cartoon was made about them. Not a manga or an anime, but a Cartoon Network original series made in America. The hope was that they wanted Puffy to have a big American following. During the first season of Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi, the real Puffy enjoyed Stateside success for a while. The show was hyped to be the new Powerpuff Girls, the duo performed at the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade on an honest-to-god HHPAY float, and they even sang the Teen Titans theme song! Wow, so they made music for TWO Cartoon Network originals! But sadly, the hype would soon come to an end and the show was cancelled after 3 seasons.

20 years after the cartoon first aired, I present to you my Puffylicious fanart at last, featuring the titular duo themselves: the cute, bubbly girly-girl Ami and the cynical, snarky punk rocker tomboy Yumi! You'll notice that while I've stayed true to their character designs, I've given them my own little spin so they look like they're more in line with my art style. I gotta say, they look even more detailed than they do in the real thing! And lastly, for bonus motivation, I actually listened to Puffy's songs on Spotify while drawing this fanart!

They're both kawaii cool! :D I prefer the blue one

JTBPreston responds:

So Yumi's your favourite? Well, she is the cool, tough (and hot) one of the two!
