This is Baster, it took me 9:09 to draw them.
So Baster is a Ryllst, they're the third form of Cyufelk and the species' strongest merricular field manipulators. It isn't shown here because i didn't want a garbled mess, but Ryllsts will use merricular fields to pivot metal sheets off their hip/shoulder spines like rudimentary wings in order to fly (albeit slowly and with hard to control momentum). As for general Ryllst anatomy, these things are a chaotic mess: ten legs, 36 eyes, sheet wings, that abysmal snaggletooth jaw of interlocking copper fangs, and a rattle tail (honestly I stole the concept from real life rattlesnakes and then drew something that should be analogous because I thought it would be kinda cool)
I should mention that while Ryllst do have tail rattles similarly to rattlesnakes, there are structural differences. I really wanted to make it a proper display of convergent evolution since, y'know, these things aren't even from the same dimension and originated and evolved in a vacuum from earth life; so I looked at how rattlesnake tails work and then tried to figure out how the already present Cyufelk traits could possibly evolve to use the same general concept. So, real life rattlesnake tails are kinda neat in how they function, the tail has this keratinous plate on the end that has a few wider sections, and every time the snake sheds it's skin, this keratin plate will loosen and let go just like the rest of the skin, but the ridges on it remain interlocked with the new plate underneath. So every time the snake sheds they get a new segment on the rattle as these segments remain interlocked vaguely like a metal chain, I really can't explain it the best but it you go google it there should be some good explanations from professionals that actually know what they're talking about readily available. The point is, there is no living tissue in the rattle or a rattlesnake, this is not how Ryllst tails work. For a Ryllst's rattle, I tried to make this general diagram since I don't know if I'll properly revisit the topic anytime soon: essentially, where a rattlesnake's tail is like a link of chains, a Ryllst's tail is more like hollow beads on a string.
Yea I know the drawing is kinda trash, it's just supposed to show the idea so I used a more scuffed version of my artstyle.
Anyway, Baster as a character is meant to be that kind of person where they're fairly knowledgeable but often feign ignorance on a lot of things, partly because they don't want to look condescending, partly because they don't want everybody flocking to them for answers that they don't actually have; I like the idea that they just don't want to cause problems or make people look dumb unless someone's just being a prick. Additionally I think they'd have a light joking kind of attitude, if something bad happens Baster would be there to crack a joke to try to lighten the mood, or if someone's being moody they're going to make some joke at their expense that's lighthearted enough to come off as a minor insult, but one that might make the person stop and think for a second. Of course these general character traits don't have all the positives and none of the negatives, Baster might come off as gatekeeping information to make a sport out of learning, or some of their jokes might seem really insensitive or uncalled for; sometimes Baster just gets ahead of themself on thinking they're doing good and they might forget to be as considerate as they should be, occasionally they might just need someone getting mad at them or something not going their way for them to realize that they aren't the perfect wellfont of knowledge and kindness they thought they were.
As for their lore connections, I'll be honest in saying that I'm not entirely sure of how I want to write it, but I'm thinking of making Baster one of the other council members from Calisthor's storyline, specifically they are against the use of Quicksilver, but maybe they didn't think banishing Calisthor and inciting a nationwide riot was right but their co-conspirators were so paranoid and determined with their decision that they had to show support for the whole nine yards or else they'd be on the chopping block next. I figure a character can want something and associate with people of similar goals only to disagree with the methods but be enough of a minority in the highly polarized group that a moment's hesitation might be seen as dissent; at least, that's what they think would happen and they aren't willing to jeopardize their life for a maybe.
Either that or they're a teacher, maybe that's what they did before or after their time on the council; I'm improvising as I go and as you may have guessed I'm neither a confident nor professional writer.
Also I've never drawn green hair before that I can recall and I get the feeling that I'm a little off on how I shaded it but i simply don't know how exactly to improve it so I'll have to experiment with that in the future.
