love this style alot
I bet people find Humanz disappointing because Gorillaz had to pick a specific type of genre to what the album is supposed to mean, in which incase you didn't know the album tackles political problems that revolve around Trump and racial tensions. Also, Humanz is as modern as they get.
They forgot what made them so special to begin with.
They forgot what made Gorillaz Gorillaz.
I'm not against artists taking on different styles and directions, as long as they do it well.
Plastic Beach was a big change of pace, but the album was still fantastic, it still sounded like Gorillaz, you know?
There's tracks on Humanz that sound like I've stumbled on some random house track on SoundCloud, and it's really disappointing.
Have you heard their new track "Sleeping Powder"? It was fucking amazing, why didnt we get more of that on Humanz?
I do feel that the overpaint is actually an improvement, the realistic versions of the characters looked kinda creepy, and less fun than the cartoony ones.
As far as the album, Humanz, goes though, I've tried to like it, I really have, but there's nothing really all that catchy or fun in the album (I usually try to avoid being the "their first stuff is better" kinda guy, as that idea doesn't always hold true, but in this case, I really do miss the easily memorable, and fun vibes of songs like Dare, Feel Good Inc., and Clint Eastwood).
