Speaking of color palettes and studies, I understand why this might seem jarring to the eye without context. However, if you put this piece into a dim interior with a lantern/torchlight nearby and it's bang on.
I reckon my color choices are often offputting ><
I get the idea behind it, but tbh due to the colour choices it kinda looks like a rotting carrot.
Maybe adjust the colours so that it looks more like pastry, using some pale yellows and such and removing the pale greenish browns.Keep the tints of aqua, but it's mainly that weird pale brown that is kinda causing this effect.
I like the shape of it and the touches like the hearts, and usually your work is quite solid but the colours need work.
EDIT: It's mostly due to the imbalance of certain colours. The palette itself works well, but you overloaded a mild darkest shade colour and made it a primary colour which it doesn't work in this case.
Sure, the palette however is the same from my latest pie piece, which was praised for its color choices. I made this as yet another color study because I felt that this very same palette needed work on another subject besides the pie dough. I reckon it failed, the study was valid nonetheless.
I love pixel art so much. I love how croissanty this is. Those aqua green highlights are kinda magical. Does it smell like heart, or is it thinking about love? Sentient love croissant. I can almost see it moving like a caterpillar across the table.
It both smells like heart and it is thinking of love. <3
