Here's the original image, by the way since late April or early May I've been studying and watching older cartoons (particularly Looney tunes & Frank Tashlin's Fox and Crow) and I stumbled upon Book Revue, which is probably my least favorite Clampett cartoon.
Sure, there are great drawings, and Melendez is top in animating once again, however the jokes felt missing to me, which is unexpected from Clampett (He's a favorite cartoonist of mine, second is Tashlin) Hare Ribbin, The Big Snooze, Birth of a Notion and The Goofy Gophers are some of my favorites and the funniest from him (tho there is more).
My all time favorite and influential cartoon is actually Porky Pig's Feat by Frank Tashlin (However, that topic is for a another post)
What I think my study differs from the original drawing isn't because I used paper, however how I studied it ,some areas are awkward and I think I cramped his bill a little, and I've even added wrinkles that weren't even there.
However, that's okay! Because whenever I make mistakes when studying cartoons, I'll learn from them! I'll learn how I'll study the next time and I'd even learn how to use formula and techniques that they used to use in the 40s.
I'm still a learning cartoonist (and youthful as well) and I'm still learning something both old and new, i don't have an original style or unique look, in fact I don't think I finished anything or became an professional, my style doesn't even exist, it's mainly just everyone else's style, i don't even believe in the concept of styles at all, only drawing well matters
I mostly teach my self how to draw then someone else telling me how (well, John K's blog does help me a lot too)
Hey! while you're here maybe you can try studying from old cartoons and use what you've learned on your drawings and little characters, have fun! - Mattie
