The Tweet (dont call it X around Sonic)
The Blue Blur, Fastest Thing Alive and thorn in Dr Eggman's side, Sonic the Hedgehog!
Ok so story time:
So around last January i decided to make a few Yuji Uekawa-inspired drawings of Sonic and co. Once i had made 7 of them i decided to make wallpapers of all of them and then post them to twitter (i made an eighth one during this process) it..... Didnt pan out too well and the post was dead on arrival. Naturally i moved on and made my next piece, and never posted the wallpapers to newgrounds. Forward to yesterday night and i was reminiscing on older pieces. Thats when i came to these pictures of sonic and co and thought "hey these aren't that bad, what if i touched them up and reposted them individually as proper art instead of posting them all at once as wallpapers?" And so, after a few hours of more than "touching up" Sonic i present the first of 8 drawings!
As for the drawing, I wanted to keep the Uekawa style present but make my own personal changes here and there, while improving on the old version. And lemme tell ya, I changed a LOT more than i was anticipating i would! From arm length to hand poses to finger shape to repositioning the entire upper half to re-doing ALL of the rendering i did quite the refresh.
For starters the shading is with different colors instead of being darker shades (blue to purple, green to teal, ect.) Same with the highlights as well. I also added some block shading(?) That i didnt have in the original version, like under the neck and back quill. I made the eyes more detailed and made them sparkly and colorful. Honestly i really like how the eyes came out.
Overall this drawing is a pretty sizeable improvement over the original, while not being a direct attempt at rehashing someone else's art style. Im pretty excited to work on the next 7 character, and i believe Tails should next so look forward to that (or ill skip him and do Amy or Shadow first lmao). Toot toot sonic warriors or something i dunno get out of my house >:(
