Gloom - Sugimori Watercolor Study

Share

Man pokemon's fine and all, but I miss the days when all the manuals and shit looked like sunbleached and faded, like you were some shithead kid going on a safari with a very real chance of being torn alive by a goddamn tauros. Sugimori always used to highlight to this stark-ass white that made everything feel weirdly washed-out and rough.

This was one of the first things I tried with the replacement intuos I got back in may, in prep for a pokemon drawing challenge I was doing with a buddy.

Shit bro I feel that, I love how colors in Sugimori's old work was reserved more exclusively for shading, there's a real personality to it and it makes the classic pieces pop while giving them a very unique texture, it's definitely something I miss and wish wasn't dropped as early as the third gen. Glad I'm not the only one to take notice
